Yes, apparently Tony Bloom is going to put on a Punch and Judy show on the concourses while Martin Perry makes balloon animals. Blimey - what other responsibilities do people expect the club to take on? They're all but paying for everyone to get to the ground, have reduced the prices to kids to next for nothing and given everyone a nice comfy seat....

Personally, I'm going to demand that a club employee sits next to me throughout and describes the action as I find it all a bit tiring actually having to watch a match with my own eyes. And after the game, I assume Gus will send out a few of the unused subs to carry me back to the train station as my feet get a bit achey if I walk too far. If not, I'll be demanding answers on Ask The Club!

Let's hope we do not have to rely on your wit for post or pre-match entertainment eh?

I have two kids (14&15) and I have paid £270 each for their two seats, as well as two shirts, cup tickets, friendly tickets, not to mention the cokes, burgers etc... So, I think we are entitled to go into the SUPPORTERS bar. I want to see ALL parts of the ground at least once, if I get there and there is a huge queue, I will go in the concourse have a beer and relax. I am sure at some point I will get into the SUPPORTERS bar and when I do, I suspect it will take forever to get to the bar and actually get a drink so I will probably have one maybe two pints and leave. If everyone does this there will be a steady stream of people leaving and people entering and we can all be happy!

I think someone else mentioned this earlier but by day this is a cafe... I don't think it is going to be the supporters bar that they think it is going to be...

Agree with this. To be honest we do not have a supporters bar really. A venue holding 250 is inadequate for it's intended purpose. I have absolutely no intention of ever trying to get in there as it is going to be so difficult, you would be crazy to even consider Dick's as part of your pre match routine as there is no way you can guarantee getting in. This is the truth of this bar, and whether children can get in is neither here nor there. If you travel to Falmer to drink, realistically it is concourse or nothing.

I do like the marquee idea though, not sure that licensing would allow Brighton Uni to run a bar here though, especially if it is against the clubs wishes.

so i presume you are also demanding access to the 1901 area, the corporate boxes and the changing rooms then?

Actually, I am fairly certain that I will get access to the 1901 and the corporate areas at some point this season through contacts but I doubt I will get access to the changing rooms, not that I would want to..

my thoughts were the supporters bar will be a place where supporters from all around the ground can meet before or after the game, although the concourses are very nice there is no where to sit just like most grounds thats a shame. I may be in the minority but beer is not a be all or end all. I wonder what percentage of spectators actually buy a beer at the ground i would guess its a lot less that 50%. Football is all about the banter and enjoying and making new friends and surprisingly even the visiting teams have fans who you can enjoy a conversation with, so we should be big enough to allow visiting fans in if its controlled. I know i'm perhaps an old fogey but i hope i will be able to enjoy Dicks bar with everyone else

No kids is FAIR in my opinion, there are plenty of places for KIDS to play, if they want to see the mosiac look at the print or go on a non match day, stop yer whining.

SUPPORTERS bar

SUPPORTERS

Why are you ignoring the context of Chappers' post?

He isn't denying it's a bar for supporters. What he is suggesting is that it is a BAR, and therefore not a place for children. This is standard the world over. In fact I think people in this country are spoiled with the number of family friendly bars we have, giving the false impression that children should be welcomed in all bars. Well they shouldn't.

The real issues in this thread:

> Why isn't the supporters bar bigger?
> Can we make provisions for more comfortable/suitable concourse drinking?
> Could the fan mosaic be moved to allow for children only able to visit the stadium on matchdays?
> Is there really any legal reason behind not allowing children in, or is it simply sensible club policy?

Arguing over the rights of children in a licensed bar will get us nowhere. Just give up, it's a lost cause.

The club were never going to keep EVERYBODY happy so can people stop making a fuss over this perfectly understandable, logical and entirely COMMONPLACE rule to not open the bar to children.

Thanks

xx

Those who don't mind standing with a pint on a concourse - and I remember being thrilled at certain away grounds when this was an option - will do that.

And I really don't understand what the issue is with that? I'm delighted that we can finally have a beer inside the ground - why all this moaning about a tiny part of the ground that the vast majority of us won't be able to get into anyway?

Why isn't the supporters' bar bigger? There was a time, not long ago, when certain people at the club were suggesting that since we had four big concourses, and real ale, we didn't need one! It was made EXTREMELY clear that we DID need one, and that if we didn't get one, some people would be well pissed off. We've got one. And it's actually quite a bit bigger than a 250 capacity would suggest. I think we've done OK.

It was originally proposed that there would be more furniture in the concourse areas. I don't think any of us knows just how crammed it's going to feel there with things as it is. If we feel that there is the space and ask for that i think it could happen.

Dick's bar is the logical place for the mosaic, I reckon. It's a comfortable location to examine it at your leisure. That leads to the kids issue, and opinion seems to be divided on that.

I think we all need to experience a few matches, and review the situation after that. As I said before, we've got a lovely new stadium and surely the most momentous occasion in the history of the Albion happens tomorrow. Let's ENJOY it! :):)
