Chez Tonys or Barberellas

Anyway why is everyone so defensive on this everything would always change with the Amex and it has, probably quicker than most hoped but it has and for the better as we are a lean money making machine with ambition or would you harp back to the days of Theatre of Tees ?

Would we ? No. Would we want people like Dick Knight immortal yes. Barber probably wants it to be renamed " Pauls Pub " The club is in danger of losing it's heart and soul. Worth it for " progress " maybe but for me it is not " progress " not by any definition of the phrase.

The bit that Tony Bloom might have added to his statement is this:

"I've been trying to get rid of Dick Knight for a couple of years. Finally he's gone".

And so what if he has ?

Bloom stumped up the money or perhaps we would be playing in a two standed stadium

It's mostly true. It's what isn't being said that warrants my comment.

"Since standing down as chairman of the football club, he has continued his involvement with Brighton & Hove Albion both as club President and as Chairman of AITC." Yep. Is that ALL that Tony Bloom has to say?[/QUOTE

spot on Lord B .

OK define what progress is ?

New stadium, new training ground, highest position for ages, highest transfer fee paid ever, record crowds and revenue

What more do you want for progress ?

some call it respect, others might call it sucking up (or do I have to show you respect because you've done this and that?). Should I go through you next time I want to challenge another poster?

No post what you want but expect people to comment on it.

Did Dick find it hard to accept being moved aside for TB though, with all the problems that may have brought? Having the old boss trying to influence behind the scenes could be problematical for the new one.

Is this really all about AITC?

Genuine question and again with absolutely no info on the above

We're talking about the charity side of the club not a lean money making machine or have I misunderstood the meaning of charity?

I see what you mean. Of course. For me the club has lost some soul in the last year. Maybe it is inevitable but I think it is bad if the past, the history and the people who made it all happen are swept away with the new broom.

I can tell you don't like whats going on with the club. In your opinion and what you know, is what is happening for the better of the club from a footballing perspective? Is it just, you feel the club are disrespecting people who saved the club, like Dick Knight and you aswell as others? I'm sorry if it sounds a stupid question but I just want to understand.

I don't recall Dick writing anything nice on the club site about his predecessor

I certainly don't feel disrespected by the Club and I've been working happily with the Club on transport provision for the past two seasons (and still am). The football has been superb. Oscar's appointment looks good and it will serve "the project" well. But there has been stuff going on behind the scenes that troubles me. The dreadful relationship between Tony Bloom and Dick Knight is one aspect of this - and it's NOT about DK resenting TB's role in funding the stadium.

It was always said that one man shouldn't be in charge again, but DK had no choice. Of course, we're all grateful to TB for the stadium and the training ground but have we reached the stage where we don't ask questions?

So you are happy generally, but feel he can be a too ruthless when he feel he needs to be?

The thing is, I don't think it had to be this way. A happy medium could have existed between progress and history. But somehow a civil war has broken out instead. Or two.

I've met Tony Bloom, Dick Knight and Gus Poyet, and I like them all, and very much respect what each of them has done for the club. I wish they all liked and respected each other and I find it very sad that in some cases they don't.

For many people on NSC, this doesn't matter at all. For some of us it does.

Great post. I wish I had put it this way.

Do you think its over now that Gus has gone and Dick has even less to do with the club now, and Tony is happy?

Given the history of the club a dash of cynicism is vital for all fans. The problem is that many fans blindly follow those that have put money into the club.
