I think the main concern is whether the investment will happen in the 2 / 3 seasoned professionals required.

We were at this point last season and nothing happened in the transfer window and then we were relegated.

I really hope the club has learnt from last season.

Well this is where Dick Knight needs to reassure fans like myself that all this talk of money being available for transfers is not just a load of empty promises. We've heard it through transfer windows in the past and still we come out of it empty handed and just a load of excuses as to why we could'nt sign players that we were after. The time has now come for Dick Knight to put the money where his mouth is and actually deliver the players we need.

Gatting has already been written off by some as sh*t and what have you... He has only made 11 starts!! I don't know, quite what people were expecting. Considering that most strikers tend to peak at 28 or so...

In an ideal world, we would be able to blood these guys playing in a team with 7 or more seasoned pro's, learning their trade gradually from the likes of Guy Butters and Paul Reid. However, that is simply not possible and they have been thrown in at the deep end. They DESERVE our support and they NEED our support.

Altogether now "Dean Wilkins' Blue and White Army"  :albion:

Spot on BOF.

Couldn't agree more so let's hope something happens otherwise it may cost the club more loss of fans.

but what if the players we want don't want to come? do you want us to sign a load of shite? I don't think so. We are in a very awkward and unusual situation at the moment. The day Falmer is being built, I expect you'll find a few players being more interested in joining. Once we start playing there, I'd expect to see players easier to come by

Nobody wants us to sign a load of shite but if we genuinely had the money to go chasing the likes of Shipperly and Dichio then offering decent wages to a few seasoned pro's from the lower league's should'nt be a problem. I know we allways use the excuse of Withdean being the main factor for players not signing but if the money is right then the players will come as has been proved in the past.

We have been very unlucky to lose two experienced players for the season in Reid and Oatway.

Just because you pay money for a player, it does not guarantee he will be any good, this is known as the Jason Peake theorem.

Remember, in 1996/97, the club with the highest wage bill in Division 4 was......US, and it did not do us a lot of good.

Having said that, the board must shirley realise that they expect the fans to pay top whack to watch at Withers, and many feel it is not value for money.

Whose fault is that though.......step forward Bill Archer/LDC and their cohorts.

I ahevn't agreed with everything that Dk has done over the years but he wouldn't be human if I did! He has worked his socks off for the club and he continues to do so. The only thing I would appreciate is if he spoke out more.... ie. actually explained to us where we are financially right now because I'm completely lost.

DK is the man to take us to our new ground and I hope he will contine on. And I know I might be speaking heresy but I am now beginning to question the intentions of the Ernest brigade... are they really Albion supporters or a Palace fifth column? Here we are fighting to stay in this division while supportes are destroying the morale of the players. Does that sound like a true supporter to you?

DK is not the man with the money when it comes to players. It would appear that this is down to the other directors, the problem was that they didn't see eye-to-eye with MM, and so they were a little wary about making monies available to him. I do know that money was available and that the directors were not pleased that MM used this as an excuse.
The money behind the club is not DK, it belongs to the other directors, and maybe a view other non director investors (FBS et al)

Our wage bill must be one of the lowest in this division with the amount of kids we have in the first team squad. Bearing in mind it's not always been like that, there must be some money around for a few more players right now.

I've said this a few times, I'd rather the chairman be honest. I've questioned several times whether the money is REALLY available, and frankly, I'm not convinced it is. I think we have sunk so far into the Falmer enquiry, gates are dropping off, season ticket revenue is down, merchandise sales are lower, that actually the wage bill availability is probably lower than it has ever been.

It's time for somebody to be honest and tell us the exact score. We can't go after Championship players - we simply don't have the money. So who else are we going after?

was the new stands open for that game?

If so, that is a more worrying statistic in that it would have been one of the biggest games we played last year at home, yet we were still 1000 short

I think the official capacity is something like 8850, plus I may be wrong, but I thought there were gaps in the southampton end too.

also we were plummetting like a stone then.

Let's just remember how we played almost as badly that day as we did against sheff wed

Dick Knight addressed the 'Friends of the Albion' business forum on Friday - quite an animated rant he went on as well. I was convinced the beer bottles and wine glasses were about to go flying across the room - he is that pissed off with LDC.

Anyoo, he let us know about Kevin Gallen, and that there are two or three players we are very keen on getting - it's not worth putting out press statements to who we are chasing - it can be counter-productive. Whether that means we are close to getting them, or it means we have a realistic shout of getting them, I'm not sure.

He did re-iterate to everyone there that money is available. He didn't let on how much (I would have been disappointed if he did let on how much), but that to get who we realistically could get, 'it shouldn't be a problem, unless they want silly money'. Facilities (i.e. lack of decent stadium etc), he said, were the reasons being cited for players not coming to Brighton.

Now, people are telling us that they want Dick to come out and tell us the score. This he has done, and the message doesn't seem to change. Unless he is telling us a bare-faced lie (highly unwise considering he's talking to the club's sponsors and backers), what he is saying is what the situation is. You want someone to 'come out and be honest', so he says what's going on, and then you still don't believe him.

Money not being available and money not being spent are two separate issues. If he's lying, let us know how.

So how are LDC to blame for us training at Sussex Uni? ??? Not a bit - just too tight to invest in a modern facility! :nono:

Invest with what exactly? (I can't believe I've allowed myself to fall for this)
