The dull part of the south coast
I like him and the way he says it how it is, but you dont go and say stuff like "he was total shit" to the press as thats just going to piss them off. Unless he wants to publicly put the fire up the keepers arse to get performances out of him, although its backfired massively if he wants to leave.

He is allowed to take a keeper off though, if he thinks they arent performing well then by all means take them off.

I don't want to be behind the keeper when that happens!!

Some people on here would be in for a shock if they saw one of Gus' team talks, especially if it was a losing one. For instance, our poor run of form last season after the Palace game was due to his reaction after the game; also, later in the season his harsh opinions on Razak caused the kid to throw his toys out of the pram and leave.

I think it's right to give team talks like this, show them exactly how you feel, but going to the media is a different thing. Gus plays it much calmer, putting fans at ease, whereas Di Canio goes all out and expresses exactly how he feels

Utter utter horseshit - you don't know any of that, you are just reading between the lines from what was in the public domain and summising to suit your own agenda. And if you are anywhere near the dressing room, I would suggest you keep this kind of knowledge to yourself, because you won't be for very long if you keep sprouting crap like that.

Would you like Gus to say these things about one of our players who has had a bad game?

Do you think it would help the player? Would it help the dressing room? Would it command respect from the other players? Would it make our club an attractive prospect to other professionals in the game?

What good could it possibly do, other than appeal to some lower bran animal instincts?

We have a smart, thoughtful manager.

Di Canio is not smart, or thoughtful.

He is QUALITY!!!!!!!!

Hes quality! Would LOVE seeing him in charge at a big club.

No board of a big club would employ such a loose cannon. Totally out of control, it will end in tears at Swindon and lower league is all he will ever get offered.

The keeper may have had a bad game, but from my understanding, he's been outstanding for them ever since he signed a year or so ago. I thought he looked good when we played them. It seems very harsh to not only criticise, but to utterly- and publicly slate- the lad for one apparently poor game against a Premier League side.

By all means sub him, but to humiliate him like that seems very wrong. I wonder what Foderingham's reaction will be in the long term. I presume he nonetheless played on Saturday?

Ah, my bad. I thought this incident happened in the cup game. Didn't realise this was at the weekend, or even that they got battered by Preston. Will be fascinating to see how Di Canio copes if they start to lose a few games, as so far he's mostly been a winner. When they have lost, he's generally made a tit of himself, Steve Evans style, with a total lack of grace. He already appears to have told the Swindon board he wants a new keeper, sounds like he's burnt his bridges.

Way to destroy a 20 year old after one so-so performance. I saw worse from David Gonzalez- for and against us, but I didn't see our own manager humiliate the guy.

Absolutely right, although it didn't stop a good few muppets in the North Stand from doing their bit to publicly humiliate the bloke when he played for us.

Even when Micky Adams hauled off Kuipers at half time on his debut at Southend he didn't slag him off publicly and put him back in the team for the following game. Di Canio needs to learn to keep these matters private.

Spot on. Even if it's true you don't tell the bloody press this! It's another 'Look at me' from Di Canio IMO...

Meopham, Kent.
Di Canio is a perfectionist and if players dont meet his high standards he lets them no, not sure its right but i would like to see some manager do the same from time to time

Does that also apply to himself though, and especially his handling of situations, because he would seem some way off "perfect" in his man management.

Hope he never manages our club. Never really had that strong of an opinion until recently, but seems like a right attention seeking c*nt, and a fascist to boot. Was evident when they beat us, it wasn't applauding the players, he made all of those gestures suggesting he was some kind of god like creature who deserved every last ounce of credit.

Managers like him are all well and rosey when things are going well, but give it 4 or 5 defeats and he will lose the dressing room rapidly. Ninja Elephant gave those stats about the keepers form, seems very good for a young keeper. If your keeper has a bad game, you don't publicly slag off his performance, to the point where it seems Di Canio has gone out of his way to do so. If asked why the substition was made, any sane person would just state the obvious "I could see he was having a tough game". What on earth does all these interviews do to Foderingham's confidence, and also, the rest of the dressing room. Fair enough, one could argue it puts the pressure on players to perform, but even Messi has a bad game in a while. Laying into a young, league 2 keeper, who is bound to make mistakes is just childish and pathetic IMO.

Yes, Paulo won league 2, but he also had the largest budget seemingly by some distance along with Crawley. Once again he has a very good budget for L1, which looks the easiest it has done for years, just look at the amount of players he's brought in.

I can't wait to see how he reacts when they inevitably hit a bad run of form, I reckon the chances are he'll lose a fair few of the dressing room when things turn bad, as his man management skills seem pretty shocking. Leon Clarke, Caddis, and now Foderingham.

Blokes a :tosser: IMO.

As I said in my earlier post, if he is like this after losing one game, what is he like after going on a bad run.
His man management skills have a lot to be desired from what I have seen online and in the press. If he does not control his southern Italian temper, it might have a negative effect on his players.

The coffers of Swindon are hardly overflowing with money either, so it's not like they can go and get another goal keeper tomorrow just because their first choice has a bad game. Other teams now know how to wind Swindon up and especially Di Canio. Gus is a class apart.

I haven't really said anything interest, I thought it was public knowledge. I'm a fan, not a player or a staff member, and I have no connections; but I do talk to many Brighton fans who I trust are correct

This is EXACTLY why it's fine to give your own players some stick in the right situation. If it FORCES players as crap as gonzales out of the club then surely it is for the greater good. Obviously this is abused sometimes and extended to players who don't deserve it - Murray at Brentford is a good example - but used in the right way it certainly has a place.

I'm fed up with these average footballers on extortionate wages being shown the CARROT treatment all the time, I want to see more STICKS. If Barnsley fans do the same sooner rather than later they might earn their team a few points.

Di Canio cannot handle defeat its a simple as that, if they have a run of 4 or 5 defeats that dressing room will implode on him or he will walk in my opinion.

Luckily L1 is a poor league this year so they have a decent chance.

The dressing room is an inner sanctum though, so when you say...

...it sounds like you were speaking from a position of experience, when in fact you were just making an assumption.

None of us KNOW what a Gus team talk is like (although I'd LOVE to have been a fly on the wall a few times, Upton Park for starters).
