A woman is an adult female.

The debate is over folk who identify as adult females but physically are not I'm guessing ?

My conclusion is that unless you are the one who has to figure out solutions to women’s refuges, hospital wards etc then how on earth could any of it possibly effect you in a detrimental way? More to the point, how could it bother you?

I’m up for diversity, range, choice for all, colours and accents and all manner of people doing all sorts of things. Jump in I say, we only go round once!

All of this!

I don't get it, but I'm painfully aware that is due to my age and ignorance.
I don't feel any need to rail against how other people identify.
It surprises me that so many, seemingly intelligent, people feel differently.

Well you're not disagreeing with me, you're disagreeing with that study they undertook.

It's easy to find both sides of media who are at it constantly. There's plenty of left leaning women in the feminist space who have issues with trans women in their space. The culture warriors even came up with a new name for them to demonise them.

I think there is a subtle difference with that study. That study was titled 'Culture wars in the UK: how the public understand the debate'

The finding you linked was a specific reference to use of the term 'culture wars', not issues that might be considered as part of the culture war.

https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&sou...AQFnoECAYQAQ&usg=AOvVaw0XC230KPbfY6MQYJK4RPUu

A newspaper talking about BLM, trans rights, the BBC, wokes from a position of outrage would not have been included if it didn't use that term.

IME, that does reflect the reality of the situation. Some publications are obsessed with these issues for different reasons.

'Define a woman'.

Tell you what. Shall we ask one? Do we actually have any on the forum?

As a Brexiteer and therefore considered a far right fascist by many on here, I am firmly in the live and let live camp. A woman to me is someone born female but if someone wants to be referred to as female and wishes to either dress as a woman or undergo a sex change then I would respect their choice and admire their bravery for being who they want to be. Really can't understand why it's even an issue. However if someone is born and bred in Brighton and Hove and considers themselves a Manchester United/ Liverpool fan etc, they can f#ck off.......

For many, this is a very simple, black or white question. The dumb gammon at 6:40 is representative of this view:
https://youtu.be/LGR_pNAdGqM

The right set-up culture wars for these sorts of people to make them very, very angry.

In reality, it’s very complex. You have to separate gender from biological sex and try and create a balance that respects individual trans rights as well as respecting women’s rights.

What is clear from this clip is that Penny Mordaunt is about to be shredded by the right wing press and the Government backed Truss campaign as she is sympathetic to trans people.

In this video he talks about increasing hormonal and other influences before birth among transgender people. Does anyone know any more about this to save me a bit of googling?

(I also love the way he dismisses the soldier liar and phone tapper's rather inflammatory and nonsensical question).

A prejudice I can't seem to rid myself of either.

Only if those that identify as transgender care about the issue.
I think you will find that is not the case.

As an oldie, I don't get it either, but my kids generation?
Yeah they do.

My kids too, and it's what is what gives me hope for the future amongst all the current shitfest

Yeh, live and let live.

What a ludicrous distraction from the many serious issues which I expect the politicians which I pay to be getting on with dealing with

Only for the people who buy into the gender silliness. For normal people it's all rather easy to define.

Female is to woman as Male is to man.

Its only gender silliness to those not adversely affected by the definition. Words and meanings change as the world around them changes, the simple fact is there are now women and men who do not fit the scientific term that the terms are traditionally connected with. All this angst has been caused by a very vocal yet tiny and very bigoted percentage of the population. Essentially the trans community have replaced the homosexual community as societies pariahs and have been forced to hark up. Admittedly there are fwits on both sides.

An excellent post.

To me it really isn't an issue. Listen to people, support people if they need it and above all treat people with respect. You might not understand what people are going through, you might choose to continue in your ignorance and close your mind to how they feel. This is of course your right. What I don't get is why people choose to write, post and generally bang on about how other people feel in their bodies (usually without a shred of understanding) and what they choose to do about it? It really makes no sense to me.

Why do others' care so much about how people feel in their bodies that they need to control them is totally beyond me.

I’ll return the compliment. An excellent post. Why do people feel the need to pontificate on what others say and do. In old fashioned biblical terms, “judge not lest ye be judged”…….. and of course plenty of people doing this sort of stuff would be claiming religious justification….. gay conversion therapy :rant:

Here
Reading the day's events on the Tory leadership contest and so far a question that has been asked of every candidate in their launches is to 'definenwhat a woman is', obviously a trick question everyone is baying for them to get wrong but am I missing something? Is this a key issue for a nation in a Brexit, cost of living and scandal crisis right now?

PS if anyone wants to know what defines a woman happy to share a photo of Mrs Crodo, she is very definitely a woman.

Has this been done - we need to see a visual representation of the person (see what I did there?) who keeps Crodo in line???

1) I ABSOLUTELY want to see a picture of Mrs Crodo. Who on earth wouldn't?!

2) What exactly are the culture wars?

3) What exactly is a unisex toilet? Is it a toilet a man or woman can use? So a toilet? Like the one in your home?

Yes. And there are people gaming the debate for their own ends. I think I posted on here before about an old friend of mine who is a typical old-school left-wing feminist lesbian. Everything for her can be seen in terms of patriarchal oppression. (She once roundly abused a barman who said "What do you want, love?"). She is definitely in the JK Rowling, Julie Bindel, Germaine Greer, Kathleen Stock, etc camp.

She will be the first to admit that, when they can talk politely, both sides make valid points. However she worked in an educational establishment, and her views were, to put it politely, not in alignment with the establishment or indeed most of her colleagues. One of the people who gave her the most trouble was someone she'd crossed swords with in the past over feminist issues, and he was now gleefully shouting about 'Terfs' and how they should be no-platformed. She knew that his attacks on her weren't so much pro-Trans as anti-feminist, and the whole Trans debate had given him a wonderful opportunity to voice his contempt for radical feminism.

BTW, she no longer works there. She didn't feel forced out or victimised, she just decided that she didn't want to work with a 'bunch of wankers' any more.
