Baroness Mallalieu, a pro-hunting Labour peer and Countryside Alliance president, standing amongst protesters outside Brighton Pier, told BBC News Online: "The saddest thing is that we are seeing the police being deployed to protect the government from the people - and I never thought I would see that under a Labour government."

She added the protesters wanted to show it was the hard working families "delegates are talking about inside the conference hall which would be hit by a hunting ban."

Amongst the hundreds of protesters, many with working dogs, was Anthony Clay, from Cambridgeshire, who said: "We are not the braying mob that John Prescott portrays."

He said the campaign was against an unjust and unenforceable law - "that's not democracy".


Bit of a short memory? Wasn't it just a couple of weeks ago where a couple of the nutters invaded the Commons and a baying mob had scuffles with the police outside Parliament??
