4th fastest century in tests and the fastest by an opener. 149-0 in 23 overs is like a one-day game, not a test match.

Australia are giving India a battering in this series - after England gave them a going-over in the summer, they could be heading for their second whitewash in a row.

As a rule when Australia were at the very top of their game and beating everyone in sight one of the first things they when batting first in a test was score fast on day one and more often than not they would post 350/400 plus on day one. From that position you should not lose the test.

If they batted all day at their current rate, they'd be close to posting 600

Barrel of Fun

Abort, retry, fail
Since the dismissal of Cowan in final innings in the previous test, they have put on 700+ runs for the cost of just one wicket.

Ponting 134
Clarke 329*
Hussey 150*
Cowan 40*
Warner 104*

Crazy.

How terrible are India now? Less than 12 months ago they were world test number 1's and won the Cricket World Cup. Now they are getting humiliated by first us and now Oz.

seems Ozes have learnt to bat again, also seem to have unearthed a decent fast bowler, could make for an interesting Ashes series in 2013 & back to Oz that winter.

They seem to have unearthed three (plus Hilfenhaus getting his mojo back and Harris back from injury). Still short a decent spinner though

Really? They have done OK in Aus. Pattinson maybe like a lot of young quickies, good until their is a bit of footage on him, then the opposition work them out.

Ignoring today's game, a lot of their recent runs have been scored by the old guard (Ponting, Hussey, Clarke and Haddin). Are all of these going to be playing much longer? Is there anything coming through, as Marsh and a few of the others have struggled to date and if these are the best of the youngsters, that could be a concern.

Cummins took his six wickets in SA - his victims included Rudolph, Amla, Kallis and De Villiers - not a bad haul for an 18 year-old. And Pattinson may have taken his wickets in Oz but has performed well in two test series.

Clarke's only 30, he's got plenty of years in him - he'll be around for the next three Ashes series I expect. Haddin will probably be around for the next two as well. But, yes, the batting is much dodgier. Hughes, Marsh and Khawaja have all failed and Oz really need at least one of them, and possibly two, to come good before the next Ashes series.

Not strongly agreeing or disagreeing, am just wary of over hyping youngsters as they often get found out after a few tests, go away for a bit and then either get back into the side or are never seen again.

Just look at Phil Hughes.

A competitive Australia is no bad thing, as much fun as it was humiliating them last year, for the good of test cricket, there need to be decent sides out there.

This is true, they've done very well, but it doesn't run counter to Uncle Buck's point. A 'new' bowler on the international scene often will take wickets because the batsmen facing don't know their precise point of the delivery, the difference in the fingers between the outswinger and the inswinger, etc. Keeping this up is often difficult, and many bowlers experience a lull soon after their introduction.

How old is Haddin now? I'm really surprised that they've not tried to blood a new keeper. Boycott raves about Khawaja, but I'm not sure about the rest. Certainly Hughes has some serious technical problems.

I'm not disagreeing with Uncle Buck's point either - I think that England will beat Australia if we played them now - but I do think their bowling is more serious now, at least they're not picking spinners for one game and dropping them. Haddin is 34

Some of their players are new, but Hilfenhaus was seriously good when he was over here last - he's got a test average of 30 and that's after he took a mauling in the last Ashes series.

Haddin's 34 - they have blooded a new keeper - Tim Paine - but he's got finger problems and his future's in doubt.

Oh here we go, the Aussies start getting good again and we're seriously worried about 2013 Ashes. I'm NOT in the slightlest worried about them, when the old guard such as Ponting, Haddin, Hussey etc go who have they got coming through?! Patterson will be found out soon enough because he still very young. Plus they haven't got any decent spinners even come through the ranks. The Aussies have far far way to go to even get back to their best.

You can't help wondering what sort of bungs the players might have taken to allow the batting side to play with such extravagance......................? Call me a cynic but right now I'm finding it hard to believe that anything in cricket is what it seems.

watched every ball of this innings and what i can say is that the indians bowled a massive sack of shite - mostly short and wide. even when warner was creaming it they had three slips / two slips and a gully in.... either they dont give a shite and are dreaming of this years IPL cheque or they have written this one off and cant wait to go home.

If warner played like that against anderson and broad he'd last about three overs, just like hughes did

Yeah, Hughes got two centuries in his first few tests and look at him. I'd like to see Warner get some runs against a serious attack (England or SA) before we can say whether he's the real thing or not. But a test ton in 70-odd balls is not to be sniffed at whatever the opposition
