look's very out of sorts and if we are gonna progress we need him to find some sort of form.
i nknow he's being playing in the centre for madrid but he's played on the right for most of his career and doesn't seem to be his usual busy hard working self

I think his time will come. Three games left (hopefully), we'll need top quality performances from him and Owen if we're going to go all the way.

Watch out Portugal! He'll probably want to get one over on Figo.

I think he is not quite playing to his previous standards but its not as bad as people are saying. Previously we relied on him too heavily and he came up with the goods and stood head and shoulders above the others. However now we have Rooney, Lampard and Gerrard amongst others who are shining so not as much has to go through Beckham.

Thought his freekick last night at goal was a bit poor - lacked the conviction he has shown previously to really strike the ball. He just tried to get it over the ball rather than whipping it over.

Still think he was involved though, some great long balls and a couple of great crosses still.

Beckham was bollocks last night . . .you do not expect a player of his standard to play a cross field pass straight off the pitch

why Sven took off Scholes ( who actually played as well as he has done all season) and not him, I dont know, the same goes for Owen/Rooney.

this was once explained to me that scholes was asthmatic and that if there's any chance of getting him off for the last 20 minutes the manager will do. maybe that's rubbish, i don't know..

Exactly Barnet thats why Lampard came of as well.

I for one am happy we are playing well without Beckham firing on all cylinders, he and Owen have carried us along for the last few years on there own pretty much.

Good to see others stepping up to the plate.

i have every intention of it i was just saying that we need him to find some form!! i think the 10 outfield players are the best we have avalible and that we should stick with them and just except that now and again they are gonna be out of form and have a couple of dodgy games but if we keep the faith and get it right on the day we can beat anyone

if we get some consistency out of a few players (scholes, Ashley Cole) and some form from Owen and Beckham we can beat Portugal easily . . . .play like we did last night and we'll loose in a high scoring end to end heart attack inducing game !!

agreed.

and the great thing is, we are playing at a good level and there's the possibility of owen and beckham hitting top form too.

through the stomach churning nerves, i have almost enjoyed watching england play the last two tournaments:clap:

I assume Scholes and Rooney were taken off to protect them from picking up a booking and ruling them out of the Portugal match.

agreed Manx, but Scholes was disciplined well early in the game and Rooneys' behaviour was impecible . . . . . anyway we won so who cares ! hopefully Sven will have taken note that you cant relax 1 minute from the end let alone 20

I don't think Sven was relaxing. He took off players who were on a yellow card. Imagine what we would be saying if Rooney, Scholes or Lampard had got themselves booked in the last ten minutes.

I just can't work out why some people are criticising the substitutions.

I hope in the next match Beckham and Owen show the sort of class we all know they have got, but for some reason have failed to reproduce so far.

I have been very dissapointed with Beckham - he just looks like an average player not a world class star. Very few of his usual accurate cross field passes, not much off the ball movement, and seems to go down on the deck as soon as anyone goes near him. Lets hope he has a stormer on Thursday.
