According to BBC & Sky Sports sites, Dave Kitson doesn't care about the FA Cup (on Sky Sports it says he doesn't give two shits about it). They have no chance of winning it so staying in the prem is more important.

I hope the Reading fans respond accordingly by not going to the game.

How can a pro say they don't care about the chance of winning a cup?!

They're a Premier League team FFS. Why would they have 'no chance' of winning it?

Ann odd justification. He implies that he only gives a shit about things he can win. Reading have not got a chance of winning the Prem either so why bother with that?

Coppell made it clear he couldn't care less about the FA Cup when he put out a load of reserves against ManU in the last season. Now Kitson's at it as well.

If I was a Reading fan I'd definitely take that as a lack of respect for the supporters and boycott their FA Cup matches this time round.

i can see his point, staying in the premership is more important than progressing in the cup, more money, over time more gate receipts etc.

Absolutely. It's all about the money. But every fan of every club dreams of reaching the FA Cup Final. Reading are never going to win the Premiership, and by more or less snubbing the FA Cup, Coppell's robbing the fans of their only realistically acheivable chance of glory. I don't think that's right.

Spot on.

Of course it's not like we cared much about the FA Cup back in 1983 when we were a top flight team...

Shocking really.
However, it does read like Coppell's similar coppouts last season, when they looked like they could make European places in the league at first time of asking! That coincided with their decline in the league, it should be noted.

What's up with players if they can't conceive playing some more quality football in the season? When I was in my teens and twenties, I was pleased to run around for 2 hours chasing a ball, with no half-time breaks, and do it almost daily for fun!

Overpaid 'professionals' are becoming more and more spoilt. Kitson obviously wouldn't want an international call-up, even if he was good enough. And Coppell didn't do himself any favours if he wants to take any more-ambitious work on in future.

I can understand Ferguson or Wenger playing a few reserves in the cup what with the Champions league and Premiership to go for but I can never get it when clubs whose only chance of glory is in the FA cup treat it with contempt. From a personal point of view, I hope that for once we get a final which isn’t Man U V Chelsea / Liverpool / Arsenal. The only decent final in memory is Liverpool V West Ham otherwise it is 2 teams cancelling each other out. The less teams that care, the less chance we have of getting something worth watching and the more chance NO-ONE will give a toss about the FA Cup before long.

Incidentally, a mate of mine at work knows Kitson. Apparently, he hates Leroy Lita with a passion and footballers who are in for the celebrity culture. Odd then, that he doesn’t seem to care about the cup or actually winning something which would make him one of the only Englishmen out of the big four to have actually done so.

Coppells attitude last season to the FA Cup was a disgrace. As THPP said, they fielded a reserve team against Man U at the Madejski - and that was in the QUARTER FINAL. They were flying high in the league at the time, under absolutely no pressure in terms of relegation, and had a realistic chance of making the first FA Cup Final at the new Wembley. As it happens I think they lost narrowly after going 3-0 down early on, but I said at the time, Coppell should have been forced to apologise in person to every single paying supporter leaving the ground that night, because he made mugs out of all of them.

So, we have an FA Cup competition which numerous teams and players seem to see as an inconvenience. We have a Premiership for which the sole ambition for most teams seems to be little else than survival. Great eh?

Kitson seems really eager to create some really admiral, down-to-earth, underdog-type persona to gain respect from anyone. Personally, I think he's an arrogant tosser and I have no respect for him.

I totally agree. Mentioned in a guardian interview that he doesn't like to talk about the work he does coaching kids. And then promptly went on to talk about it. Bloke is a twat.

Kitsons comments in full:

"We are not going to win the FA Cup and I do not care less about it, to be honest. I care about staying in the Premier League, as does everybody at this club. Our league status is not protected by winning the FA Cup - simple as that. We have just come off the back of some fixtures that have been tightly packed together and we have played almost two full games with 10 men. I am absolutely shattered and so is Kevin Doyle and a lot of the other players are as well."

Just about says is all. They're all "shattered" after playing a whopping 21 League games in 5 months. My. Heart. Bleeds. f***ing PATHETIC, you ginger gimp.
