Let's hope the Albion get drawn against Reading in the next round then

And if Reading fans had any balls, they'd organise a 100% boycott of the FA Cup, hit their pathetic club in the only place it really cares about - in the pocket.

David Kitson cares only about preserving his reputation for being the world's best diver. I refer to his acrobatic performance against Albion on 10/12/2005, when he admitted that he dived, one, to get Gary Elphick sent off and, two, to get a penalty. He should dive off Brighton Pier and do us all a favour. I couldn't care less what he has to say on any subject.

While I'm on the subject of Reading, why don't I remind you all that, in the game mentioned above, after Charlie Oatway scored an own-goal, the PA bloke at the Madejski, thinking he was being funny, yelled, "The Royals' first goal was scored by...Brighton & Hove Albion!" Not to mention the chant of the Reading fans, at Withdean, in March 2006, as Hinsh lay seriously injured on the ground in front of them. "There's shit on the ground," they sang. What with the aforesaid, together with their propensity to take both our players and our managers, people shouldn't wonder why I had David Kitson and everything to do with Reading.

These guys only care about staying in the Premiership because they need to stay in the shop window for the next big money move. Else they wouldn't care about just being cannon-fodder in the Premiership either.

But if you were a manager of a 'bigger club' you'd probably be giving Kitson a wide berth as he clearly doesn't care about a game unless he thinks he has a chance of winning.

" yeah I know it's Man Utd boss, but I don't think we have a chance so I'd rather spend the afternoon having a nap......"

Oh crap, and I only posted an interview with Kitson last week, in which he came across rather well, in that he had no time for tosspot celebrity footballers, nor the ones who flash about their money and Ferraris.

(revert to picture in post above) DOH!

Did anyone honestly expect anything else from a Reading player ?

Sooo "new money", no class or history.

The goalkeeper waded in tonight on the radio dismissing the cup as well.

Very odd comment, something along the lines of "our survival depends on staying in the premiership..."

Not sure he thought that one out.

What a mouth-watering prospect for future generations of Reading fans - board and manager happy with mid-table mediocrity from here to eternity with the occasional relegation battle to add a bit of interest.

Barrel of Fun

Abort, retry, fail
Kitson is a twat, the FA Cup is the best cup competition in the world. Every team has a CHANCE of winning it, so for Kitson to say that then he is a ginger twat.

1990 Manchester United
1991 Tottenham Hotspur
1992 Liverpool
1993 Arsenal
1994 Manchester United
1995 Everton
1996 Manchester United
1997 Chelsea
1998 Arsenal
1999 Manchester United
2000 Chelsea
2001 Liverpool
2002 Arsenal
2003 Arsenal
2004 Manchester United
2005 Arsenal
2006 Liverpool
2007 Chelsea

Not quite every team.

The last 18 finals have been won by 6 different teams. Man Utd (5 times), Arsenal (5 times), Chelsea (3 times), Liverpool (3 times), Everton and Spurs (once each). The last time is was won by another team outside of the 'big four' was 1995  What can you expect when the Champions League and Sky Sports money is concentrated in the upper echelons of the Premiership.

Telling, but that IS the way football has gone, in the English league now.

Chelsea, Arse and Manure also have a Prem quality 2nd team, waiting in the wings, and nicely spoiled for dosh and perks so that they'll NEVER drop down the divisions in their later playing years.

It's bollocks really.

Reading FC is a club only interested in making money and staying in the Premiership.
Football is about winning things, it's about glory, it's about achieving something that isn't written down as a number in the bank account. I'd rather yo-yo for a few years than sit in 15th, struggling for the scraps off the big table.

Reading's thinly veiled contempt for it's fans astounds me. Our Safety officer said "For every hooligan we ban, we gain a family of four", and by Hooligan, they mean somebody that doesn't sit on their hands all game, rather than their ideal fan who spends money in the club shop, and only makes noise when prompted to by our pathetic tannoy announcer.

The FA cup is an institution, one that we don't really have a realistic chance of winning, but in reality could get to the semis if we gave it a good go. But we don't want to. the club would rather finish 13th and not worry about the cup than finish 17th and get to the latter stages. I know what I'd prefer. I love cup games, you've got that anticipation, the do or die, the hype that leads up to it. What isn't there to like?

Kitson is a down to earth guy, he says the things that other people are thinking, but in this instance he has been shot down for it because the FA cup is a cherished competition.

In Reality, money dictates football, and sadly, R£ading FC are putting the bank account before the fans. No wonder the apathy from our "families of four", corporate driven fanbase.

I won't be going on Saturday, but for other reasons.

5th round, but still, I share your sentiments.
We gave a good crack at that game for the remaining 84 minutes, but our inexperienced team were hit by three sucker punches when the evening game atmosphere and good home form we've got could have seen us through with a full team out.

Incidentally, when we put out a mix of a team, the younger players and fringe players are very keen to make an impact, so perhaps it is better to put out those hungrier players than the Kitson's and the Harper's who are thinking about Saturday's game...

I was livid after that game. We had a great chance to do Man United over, who had other concerns that time of year as well. But No. Not interested enough.

Why are the stewards not as firm with the Exiles fans who stand up...granted its not all the time, but I have been there when people were standing and the stewards just looked the other way.

Whilst we are on teh subject, Its odd that Rugby is getting the same sort of crowds football is getting and yet, standing is allowed at most grounds - Leicester being a prime example....is it more dangerous health and safety wise if football fans stand on terraces that rugby fans?

I don't go to the Rugby so can't comment on the stewarding of it, ..

If you get a free afternoon pop along...its actually quite amazing how differently the stewards treat you.

My wife knocked over her pint whist sitting in the main stand by the dugouts, and some steward offered to go and get her another one!!!

I stand corrected then - I had 1/4 final in mind, but perhaps that was because I just couldn't believe Reading were putting a scratch side out when they had a chance (and a good one) of reaching the FA Cup 1/4 finals that year. A chance of taking their fans to a historic Final at the New Wembley as well. Unreal.

And fair play to you for not blindly backing the club. I was wondering what Reading fans' take would be on all this, and whather there were many taking the same line as Coppell and Kitson (which is effectively "we're Premiership now, thats all that matters, we're too big to bother with the Cup"). I'm particularly surpised at Coppell, who took Palace *spit* on one of the most amazing cup runs of recent years.

I guess it just goes to show, money really is all that matters nowadays.

but that's a nonsense as has been discussed millions of times before. Rugby fans will get treated better as emotions don't run as high. Most of the fans a passionateless and don't really care for the score. Look at the celebration for a try compared to that of a goal......no comparason !!

But every fan of every club dreams of reaching the FA Cup Final. Reading are never going to win the Premiership, and by more or less snubbing the FA Cup, Coppell's robbing the fans of their only realistically acheivable chance of glory. I don't think that's right.

its not an excuse, but no team outside of the big four has won the fa cup since 1995. most premiership sides only chance of cup glory comes in the league cup, unless they come up against arsenal youth

it still smacks of a lack of ambition though, esecially when you throw in his attitude towards qualifying for europe last season

Sadly it is the way football is going. If you look at the Premiership table it is the same 4 that have finihsed in the top for since 96 bar the odd incursion by Everton, Leeds and Newcastle. The rest simply seem to want little more than to play in the top flight.
