Who then allowed Sainsburys to EXTEND the superstore, AFTER the local shop was opened.
Their intention was obviously to pick up trade from people, walking form the tube to home in the other direction from the massive store (open 8 till 10). Thus taking trade from independent shops, who were there for the very reason that Sainsburys felt the need to build their "local" store.
(On the VERY ODD occasion, they close the big one - one day over Easter, possibly Boxing Day - Guess what they open the small one and really screw out of the local shop keepers the few days they have a "monopoly")
Who the hell in the council thought, yep Clapham needs a Sainsburys a few shops down from.. er.. Sainsburys.
I shop in Sainsburys, but walk PAST the local store to get to the big one, then walk past it again to get home.
Never have I thought - oohh, I'll go in there and pay extra for everything, thus saving me the 3 minutes it takes me to go to the big one.
( even though the queue in the small one goes all the way round the shop )
Unfortunately people do.
