Top class players? Yes because others pay more than us. That is not a moan just acceptance. Welbeck had a big question mark over his fitness before last season, so maybe he didn’t get better offers? Guesswork again but it was a very very late signing.

Who was the last quality proven PL player who chose us over a bigger club? Lallana? Struggling to think of another

Bit of a gloomy assessment isn't it? To counteract it, I'm going out on a limb and saying that he'll re-sign for us, and do so soon. He's enjoyed himself this season, can see the club is well run and that we can cater for his needs (manager's tactics suits his qualities, gets recognition as wiser, elder player with PL experience and knowhow to pass on to others, excellent sports science and medical team, etc), and he's not only played more with us, he's scored more too.
I expect he'll get a two year deal too, either that or a one year with an option.

It's odd isn't it? They are a couple of truisms about Danny Welbeck, namely: (1) he's really old, and (2) he's always injured.

Neither of which are especially true.

Luckily Danny's clearly a decent fella and a very talented footballist.

I would love to see him and Maupay playing as 'outside forwards' assuming an actual, full formed, grown up, professional forward is playing between them.

Or more likely - Potter wanted him all along as he added something different (height, experience) to his options, he wanted us - because of the coach, the set up, the competitive contract , he turned down other offers and was a target all summer. (Along with some others obviously that didn’t pan out).

I’ve seen enough to offer Welbeck another year. Maybe even two.

Guy has been a model pro, surely a good influence at the club, and when fit has put in some incredible displays for us. Scored important goals. And has maybe been the most clinical of our forwards of late.

Yeah of course we know he’s not going to play 38 games a season. But the complete package is totally worth it to our club. And I daresay we’re a good fit for him too.

I doubt it too and to be honest, i wouldn't want us to, too big a risk, but i can see his contract expiring and him waiting to see what offers come about, if he waits too long, i think we would move on. We will find out soon enough.

I’m 100% with you. Personally, and I mat be wrong, I was bemused to see posters shitting it about other clubs like West Ham / Everton coming in for him. No chance. I’m 95% certain he’ll re-sign for us - certainly seemed that way in his interviews.

With so many players out of contract I can see Palace being a team interested in Welbeck although they did just secure Benteke down to a two year £100k pw deal.
I’m sure that Palace’s main focus is trying to get their new manager in though so he can endorse the player acquisitions. I think the job will be unappealing enough without saying ‘ oh, and by the way we’ve already assembled your squad’.
