Have to agree with this. Why hasn't this guy been snapped up already if he was out of contract? The club has avoided paying another fee at the end of the day. Not so long ago we were looking at Clayton which excited people myself included. A player who was Towns player of the season two years running but we end up with this player. People will be dubious. The last dutch player we signed was on a 3 year deal was a massive flop.

On the plus side he is of good age.

It seems to me that he is the back up plan to Clayton. I've never seen Clayton play but what I gathered about him from that massive thread and what the Huddersfield fans were saying on their own board is that he can play an advanced midfield role or sit deeper and dictate the play. Which seems to be the role(s) that this guy plays.

If this is true it goes contrary to all the tactics I was ever taught and agreed with. It is an easy system to play and an easy system to stop. Unfortunately, I really don't like it.

I liked the lob-sided (one winger) 4-3-3 of Gus Poyet best for home matches. I would like the Capello 4-4-2 for away matches if we still had a right winger with pace.

When the opponents play a pressing game we should still play it out from the back on the good pitches nowadays. Not a punt every time.

With better defending the midfield diamond would have won Liverpool the title last year

The point that kev is making is that they are a tin pot club in a league where no one has a chance of winning except 2 or 3 and the others make up the numbers. The club's ground has a 15000 capacity and average gates well below 10000. This league is similar to the Scottish Premiership. Ok, he may be good but please raise the bar a little or we will accept just anyone as long as they have a pair of boots with them

Quality post. Winners of the Dutch Eredivisie in the last 15 years:
AZ Alkmar
FC Twente
Feyenoord
Ajax
PSV Eindhoven

The same variation as the Premier League. English Premier League. Both Ajax and PSV have won European titles and Feyenoord have also competed at the highest level.
If you don't know anything about it, don't comment.

Looks a good signing to me - good pedigree playing in the Dutch league, the only reason people are being so negative about this is the fact it's a free transfer, but we've had some great signings as frees in the last few years.

Give the bloke a chance eh fools.

Anyone who doesn't think we need more quality in midfield can't have seen us play preseason or the games so far. Never heard of Holla but let's hope we've struck lucky. We all know we need a LB and more options up front, it's a start.

Natural right-footer. Most of the first team is.

So, he must be rubbish cos Kemy is? We have signed far more crap British players over the years, but we still keep buying them,

I'm guessing Clayton.

I think most got carried away with him through desperation for a signing.

I don't think he's worth what Boro paid and I reckon ( and guessing if honest) that the quality difference between him and Holla will be negligible .

In fact, reading some Dutch reports they expected him to be signed by a couple of the top Dutch sides who regardless of what you think of their league, they are better teams than us.

I'm guessing Clayton.

Does sound about right, Clayton first choice and this was their backup.

We all know they failed with Clayton and you've had plenty to say about that kev, but why does this also have to be seen as a negative? If we publicly fail to sign someone is it also a failure that we managed to sign the 2nd choice?

You've never heard of him! How can you judge how well he'll fit into our system?

What???.....Where did I say anything about fitting into any system??? I hope the guy is amazing, but it will probably be at least a month, till he is fit and I was mearly pointing out, he is most likely a cheap alternative to Clayton. Let's hope he is better than Clayton, but let's not hold our breath eh, with Burke's track record.

But isn't that it in a nutshell. Most people on here don't think anyone is worth, what other clubs pay for them and we have had a lucky escape..What a crock of shite, it's happening to often to be a coincidence.

I stick got stuck on the old Liverpool system. Liverpool looked more like 4-3-3 to me but I did not see enough of their play.

Player at the point of the diamond has got to be mobile. Or else it is too easy for the opposing defence. Rigidity of the system makes it popular amongst some players.

Really don't like it though, but mostly the shape employed by a wing-back system. a few tweaks and it reverts to a more conventional shape. With hardly any left footers in the side favours a classic 4-3-3 to me. Absence of a good central midfielder counts against 4-3-3.

But Leicester played a classic 4-3-3 at he Amex last season and they got instantly kippered. Every system has its weaknesses and strengths.

PS: I think QPR played a diamond at the Amex and they were easily the better side in midfield. I think this was because they had better players and Oscar Garcia picked the weaknesses of the system eventually after spending most to the match firing blanks. To me that showed the diamond can be defeated by less talented teams.

It all depends on the whether you rate Clayton or not. Is he a lot better than what we have with a fully fit midfield?
