I think there's a lot of misunderstanding around the role that Ashworth does.

There's a really good interview that I can't find, possibly on Talksport, where he says his skill is in being somewhere at the start of a project and putting in place a structure. Once that structure is in and working there's not much for him and he wants to move onto the next thing.

That's his own appraisal, so maybe it's just the bollocks he says to justify himself moving to a bigger club for more money, but if you take him at face value it does make some sense when you look at his career.

Most corporate high flyerseek say similar usually because they want to dodge the negative outcomes of their build it quick, no foundations , new enterprise .

It worked at Brighton because it was essentially a blank sheet with a clued up owner who had a proper vision .

Aye but that also highlights another major factor. When it comes to signing players there's a hell of a lot out there.
Winstanley definitely took his list with him to Chelsea- Fofana etc, and I'm sure Ashworth did the same. But we have the nous, data and leadership to be able to move to different targets and different markets (see English youngsters this window) very quickly.

Agreed. I think going after Ashworth shows that he has realised the problems there run deeper than just changing the manager every 2 years and hoping it solves the problem.

Wouldn’t Newcastle have to agree to this though?
If Newcastle want to dig their heels in they could put him on garden leave for the period of his notice period.
However, I’d think they’d prefer to accept a lump sum as compensation and move on?

The data itself isn’t unique to us. Everyone has access to similar data. It’s how we interpret and analyse that data that is important.

Benham coming from a similar background to Bloom, and having previously worked with him probably has similar ideas hence Brentford using their own data analysis systems.

I read that today and thought how deliciously ironic it was. They didn't give a crap about that when they went for him when he was at the Albion, only difference being we had the nous to put him on gardening leave for a bit to make sure whatever knowledge he took with him wasn't particularly damaging to the Albion in the short term.
