Thing is, does DA need to go now? Loads of people saying, rightly, it would be an amazing project. And obviously the financial reward would be huge. But he is young. And his reputation is only going to improve.
Right now, Newcastle are a mess..............................................

... and therein - bearing in mind apparantly almost limitless funds will be available - lies the veritable blueprint for an absolutely iconic project!

At what point is it ‘seen through’ though ? It doesn’t have an end date or ultimate target….it’s continual evolution and development. Top ten ? Top ten 2 seasons? 3 seasons ? Europa league ? Every season will see new objectives set.

If Ashworth decides to grab the blood-soiled Riyals, Tony will simply put someone in his place to continue the good work. No drama.

Champions League winners will do.

So do you feel disgusted that we did a deal with Chelsea for Lampty, or do you think who the owners are has nothing to do with buying or selling players between the clubs.

Nope, there's little we can do about it as a club. However I am disgusted with the premier league who have sold out for 30 pieces of silver.

Albeit high risk if there isn’t obvious success within the first few games :eek::eek::eek:

If somebody competant was seen to be sorting the mess and putting right the structural deficiencies, I think incremental success and obvious progress would be deemed satisfactory. How long did it take to turn Citeh into champions of England? Don't think the new owners (or the supporters) would expect to achieve that a lot faster.

I've bought some ridiculously oddball (race potential) cars in the past, with great intentions, and on one or two occasions likeminded friends and cutomers with very generous budgets have also indulged . . .safety in numbers possibly.

They have almost all worn us all into the ground to the point of submission. After nearly 10 years in one instance. . . Whilst great progress was made, success was not achieved in the cold hard area of results. You need a big team all onside to really make progress and even then its not guaranteed.

What a pointless analogy, see what 2 large glasses of wine does kids! :lolol::rolleyes:

Ah, I dunno, pretty good analogy and one that Potter apparently subscribes to i.e. (I paraphrase) We're either gods or shite! We can't be the former without a great team/structure and we can certainly be the latter with a shite team/structure. Therein lies Ashworth's problem; Bloom, Barber, Potter vs PIF, Staveley & Smug

Obviously needed a Director of Operations (or whatever DA's job title is)! Enjoy your third glass!

He may be waiting to see how many decent players Newcastle can get over the line before the window closes. If Newcastle get relegated it will be a wasted year recruitment wise.

But which way?

Ashworth's strength is supposedly getting in better players. If they buy some good ones in this window then what's his job? It would seem a little more likely to me that he goes there if they have a poor window.

That said, I think Trippier is a decent signing. Better than anything else they have, including St Maximin who's good on the FIFA video game but a total luxury player in real life.

Has DA been that involved in recruitment since he's been here?
If he has, I just find PW's position a bit strange. He's been here since the Night of the Long Knives IIRC, and has done a great job in that time (with a bad patch in 2018). And yet I read on here that DA has been in charge of recruitment.

I wonder if we've got the best out of DA, which was garnered from his England connection including involvement with the first team squad (hello Adam and Danny) and the unders groups (hello Tariq).
Sure, he's done some stuff with structures, etc, etc, but Tony is a master at getting people in on the rise. DA, I suspect, is at his peak now. Not so sure I'd be gutted if he goes, and the Saudis pay his contract off. That's not to say I wouldn't welcome DA seeing out his work on 'the project' here.

Trippier is an amazing signing. I don't quite get why he signed but ho hum.
Chris Wood, on the other hand ...
... is there anyone else?

At his peak? He's a Direct of Football, not a flying wingback. He's not going to forget what he's learnt over the last 30 years.

I agree. but it does mean that it becomes less and less of an issue in the context of football.

I think we just have to agree to disagree. The whole 'country owns mid ranking football team and propels them to the top through dodgy deals and sportswashing' has spoiled the game for me and it only looks like its getting worse. Those city fans who've enjoyed such success must know deep down, and I am talking about real fans, not those attracted to them through perceived associative glory, that their honours since the take-over are pretty meaningless and empty. Had the same level of investment/cheating gone on at any other club in the top 4 divisions, we would have ended up at the same point. It is not so hard when your club gets the best players and the best manager simply through having the most money. I never understand all the praise lavished on city, and I can sincerely say that I hope we never get taken over by somebody similar.

Personally I find the Saudi regime the most despicable on the planet. How the Prem allowed these lowlife into our game is beyond me. Now they are here and we have to watch their blood money buy unearned success. Disgusting. Makes Man City look almost respectable

One thing Smug is really good at is getting his players playing attacking football, I think he could turn ASM into a consistent top player. We’ll see, but from what I’ve seen of him he is potentially a brilliant player
