Well you may not like it but it sounds pretty accurate. In 1973 we WERE a small club (although bigger than we are now) and he DID, relatively speaking, only stay a few weeks. We are only a footnote in the Clough story, and the only real reason to mention us at all is because the Clough/Taylor partnership split up for a while when Taylor stayed with us. If it wasn't for that, i.e. if they'd both gone to Leeds, then the whole episode could be dismissed in a few words: "They even managed Brighton for a few games!"

I'm looking forward to seeing it. I shall be going to the Duke of Yorks as well. Is it on this Friday?

The novel is from Cloughs perspective - including his thoughts. It is obviously a work of fiction - but really quite gripping. From interviews I heave heard the film takes a deliberately kinder and probably more accurate view of Clough. The film people appeared to distance themselves from the book.

I suspect if you saw the film and then read the book expecting it to be as the film - you may be disappointed.

Didn't Cloughies family threaten legal action over the novel ? I know they've all refused to go and see the film. Something about Clough being portrayed as being a pisshead back then, when in fact his drink problem didn't kick in till his latter years at Forest.

Didn't know about that but I've certainly read that Johnny Giles threatened to take the author to court.

He and Bremner do come across terribly in the book.

Duke of Yorks has got it on all next week.

1. It's a better cinema that serves good beer that you can drink in the theatre
2. I hate the Odeon and the one at the Marina
3. It's no far from my house
4. Someone told me your Gold Membership Card at the Albion gets you some kind of discount. I'm going to investigate that to see if it's true.

Also worth pointing out they sell top quality home made cake. Whilst I do love a lager I plump for the filter coffee and cake combo at the Dukes. I agree with all your other points except 3. It is a bus ride from my house.

The membership is a good deal as well and you get sent details of upcoming films plus the programming.

I cannot speak highly enough of the place. I also drank so much booze at a charity thing I think I single handedly raised all the required funds for their roof repairs. So when it is raining outside, and you're snug inside please think of me being sick on the forecourt

Enjoyed the film - saw it at the weekend.

While Cloughie is lauded in football for his achievements (and is someone I admire), you have to appreciate that this film is based on a fictional & dark account of what one person believes happened back then. It didn't bother me that his time with the Albon was not accurately portrayed - at least we got a mention!

In fairness though, Clough RELENTLESSLY slagged off Leeds while he was at Derby, calling the likes of Bremner et-al a load of dirty cheats. Which was true of course, but it wasn't likely to lead to a warm welcome when he rolled up at E R.

Especially when he introduced himself by saying they should throw their medals in the bin because they got them by cheating.

I thought it was a top film, they respected the fact it was a dramatisation and showed clips with the real Brian Clough at the end, the authenticity was very good I felt. Except for glossing over what he did at Brighton, though we weren't overly relevant, we were the reason that Taylor and Clough split up, so it's kind of important.... I don't care that they considered Brighton a small club, we were at the time to be fair. But to show a clip of the Palace Pier with a big sign saying "Brighton Pier", that annoyed me and everyone else in the cinema. But it's a quality film and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Besides, he f***ed up Leeds United, what's not to like? :) And he was spot on, dirty cheating sods, the lot of them! They've not changed much down the years to be fair. They still get a fair few good players aswell, damn them!

In London village.
Saw it on Sunday. A lot lighter than the book but very enjoyable film with some great performances if a few dodgy wigs and slightly over weight players (or is that just the Albion?).

Not just season ticket holders. It's better than that - you just have to take an Albion ticket stub along to get the discount. That's what I did last Friday

I'm pretty sure the deal applies to Lewes fans too.

What about the Travel Vouchers? Will they take them as well so that we FINALLY get some value from them? :)

Where you there for the 8:30 show? I've only met you once and I DID stare at somebody who I thought I knew, so if you wondered who the lunkhead with the staring eyes was singing along to the songs before the film - now you know!

.... but it did have a big sign on it saying "Brighton Pier" for many years. Not sure which years, though, and if it would have been factually correct for the time of the film..........

Eh? I don't think it did. It was ALWAYS the Palace Pier. Certainly during Clough's time it was the Palace Pier. It only became Brighton Pier when the (ig)Noble Organisation decided that there would only ever be one pier in Brighton in future.

Not so sure. I always thought the rebranding of the Palace Pier was purely down to the (Ig)Noble Organisation following the unfortunate Mystery Fire why put paid to its rival pier which had just been granted heaps of grants for renovation. Certainly all the council signposts point to the Palace Pier.

Still, for the purposes of the film, 'Brighton Pier' is doubtless more convenient for setting the scene.
