1) Boro wasn't a play off game
2) In any case it was a shocking refereeing decision in a game where his goal kept us in with a sniff, and where he was one of the only decent performers.
3) In any case it's much more arguable that we didn't go up because of the points dropped when he and Kayal were not available, By the end of the season the bloke had run himself in to the ground for us.

Footballers aren't loyal. Well, 99% of them aren't. Even Zamora left.

As I pointed out a few pages ago, Elliott Bennett handed in a transfer request but stayed. I recall lots of hatred for a couple of days, and then all was sweetness and light again, when he stayed for a further few months.

Say what you will about his recent actions but it was categorically not his sending off that cost us promotion and even if it was you would have to put the blame on that relentless f**k-monkey Mike Dean.

What we do and what top sportspeople do in a team are not comparable, the contracts are utterly different. I daresay if I left my workplace there wouldn't be too much of an issue, however when all the members of a team are absolutely vital to the success of the team, you have to work in a different manner. There's really no point comparing this sort of thing with 'normal' jobs.

Jesus, imagine if players could just leave football clubs at any point, giving a statutory four weeks notice... at least the ridiculous transfer fees would start to disappear. Nobody would pay €100m for a player who could just leave after a month or two.

It's definitely worth equating to normal life/jobs.

I work in an industry where people ARE integral to the success of the team and their clients yet leave on a whim whenever. The prospect of them leaving versus the reality is always more disruptive than you think in the end.

Of course I don't think from an employment law perspective footballers will ever get parity with us normal folk - hence the Bosman rule being the next best thing to them - and that I don't blame DS for taking this stance. That's all.
