Dale Farm....this morning is attempted eviction time (merged)

One of the last forms of accepted racism. What cnuts humans can be to other humans sometimes. Very sad day.

Hmmmm.

The 'travellers' are being evicted not because they are 'travellers' (which would be racist), but because they have broken the law.

They argue that the law doesn't allow them to live how they want to live and have done so for centuries.

However because the way they live is also deemed to be socially unacceptable, they attract more comments, many of them racist.

And so it goes and so it goes....

I don't care who they are, they built homes without planning permission and have to pay the penalty.

Totally agree.

There is a far bigger issue of course. But this is at the heart of the matter. However much they dislike it (and I do feel for the kids especially), they broke the law and like everyone else, they have to pay the price for that.

Would you like them living close to you ? If the answer is yes , then you've either never lived close to any, or you lived near the only group in the country that werent only interested in robbing you, and spoiling the atmosphere in all local pubs.

Sometimes they don't do themselves any favours. This summer travellers turned up in our local beautifully kept park, breaking through the locked gates, and plonked themselves on our cricket pitch. They only stayed for about 3 or 4 days thankfully but they came to a place where 100s of people of people walk their dogs, take their kids etc. There is a place especially for them just down the road, which i am in favour of, there should be reserved places for them. These dale farm travellers have had a raw deal imo.

It's hardly an area of natural beauty is it. And they own the land, just re-write the greenbelt border. Simples!

...in 2011, for the first time, the census categorised Romanies (including Roma) and Irish Travellers as distinct ethnic groups...

Irish Traveller - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I'm not denying that 'Irish Traveller' might be a qualified ethnic group. I'm saying they are being dragged off the plot because their presence there was not legal. It doesn't matter whether they are brown, yellow, black or normal. They didn't get planning permission so they have to go.

Pork pie land.
'Traveller' is just a neutral word for a group of people, cynical and/or ignorant people have been saying "If they are travellers why do they not keep travelling?" etc. There are settled bedouin throughout the Arab world, they used to travel, now they don't, but they have kept their identity as 'Bedou'. 'Traveller' is a term of reference for a particular sub-group of people, not an description as to how an individual might live one aspect of their life. They might 'travel' they might not.

This whole thing has been mismanaged for years by the local authorities and now it's come down potentially to the impossible situation where news video could be beamed around the world showing British bailiffs/police dragging screaming women and children out of their homes (illegal or otherwise, they have been ipso facto their homes over these past years).

If anyone relishes seeing scenes like this on their TV tonight then they need to take a long, hard look at the state of their common decency and humanity.

Tonight? It has just been on at lunchtime! Shame only two tazered though. Come on you old bill!!!!!! The only problem is when they do move on they will just blight another area.

They knew how it would all end up DG , I think they tried to call the councils bluff and lost.

Damn. If only we'd known that all we had to do was build the Amex without all those pesky planning regulations.

this.

their playing the "race" card is quite pathetic, along with all the wannabe-anarchist and middle-class rent-a-demontrators who wouldn't be seen dead near a caravan but have jump on one for this event. irony is those same people would be against this if the building were a power station or a new road.

Spot on. f*** 'em. They built on the land without planning permission, then played a game knowing it would cost the tax payer £18m to call them to account.

Well £18m has now been spent and they have nowhere to live. Should have thought about that before they took the piss, shouldn't they?

Why do so many of them come over here from Ireland anyway ? What is it they are DOING here exactly ? Is it easier to sponge ? Are the authorities here a softer touch ? Whats better here for them than in Ireland ?

Genuine question.

They tried to play on the amount of money it has cost to evict them as a reason why it shouldn't be done. Sorry but if you've broken the law then the amount of money it takes to get justice shouldn't be an issue.
