Thanks for the advice on bike purchasing. Will be testing 4 or 5 at the weekend, narrowing it down to that is hard enough though!

Researching groupsets it appears the order of worst to best is
Sora>tiagra>105
Ive ruled out sora, dont like the idea of not being able to shift on the drops. I don't think I'd notice too much between the other two. However, one of the bikes I'm looking at (Bmc streetracer compact) is the same price as others I'm looking at but has a tiagra groupset when some of the others have a 105.

Do you think a relative novice at geared bikes (I have two single speed bikes) would notice the difference between the two?

Oh, some advise I forgot.
You can stick Shimano up your arse

One of the others (Pantani) will help you with that, I've only ever ridden Campag Veloce.

Playing Devil's Advocate here. Had a couple pod Shimano bikes and never had a problem. Also got a SRAM MTB and never had a problem with that either.

I've never ridden anything with Campag through.

A general point with Shimano is last years 105 is this years Tiagra, so you probably won't notice much difference.

I've got a Shimano Ultegra / DA mix at the moment and its great stuff

Tiagra will be fine - like frames, its bonkers these days just HOW good components are getting

I can't believe I didn't asked the obvious:-

What's on the short list?

(I pretty much guarantee we won't tell you what to buy or laugh in your face).

It will be interesting how Millar reacts.
It does fly in the face of how he's dealt with his demons.
As he often says, that was the law when I doped, and I doped, I knew what was a risk'.

I think Brailsford sees him as vital to Cav's chances of gold and Brailsford is good mates with Millar. I an impassioned plea should swing it.

That's how I see it.
I know it's unlikely but Cav might chip in with his opinion, too!.

DB was eating at a restaurant with DM when he was arrested.
Fair play to Dave B for sticking around, many a person in his position would have been on the first plane out of there.

How long has Thor Hushovd been an all rounder?
Since he realised he couldn't hold a candle to Cav and surprised everyone (Inc The 2011 Tour thread) by sprinting up mountains.

You tinkering too?

I've even been Wiki-ing my team, 3 out from the original team and I'm a little happier now.

Have you put the Bianchi DAMA in because I said we wouldn't laugh?

I do need to remember to drop one after the prologue.

I bet you I'll forget, and he'll be in the team for 3 weeks scoring zero points.

Good luck, I'm sure a strong case could be made for all of them.

I thought Wiki-ing your team was just standard good practice for anyone wanting at least a half decent team ?

I had an Allez Elite although back in 2007 - I really liked it.

A mate got one a year ago and his is really nice as well

Not much help I know...
