Have you bought it yet? Evans have just announced some major discounts - worth a look.

http://www.evanscycles.com/categori...utm_content=Product&utm_campaign=Soiled+bikes

And apparently they've got loads more at their Crawley base.

Check it out!

Sorry see what you mean, bikes rather than stands! Yes, will take a look also. Think I'm going to need to stick a few winter miles on my existing bikes to justify to the other half of the Finance Committee (Mrs OW) that this is an essential purchase!

Going to see one in Halford's tomorrow, was £149 down to £75. Will check out this also, thanks,

Tim
I'm pretty sure that's induced a few furrowed brows from The Geeks.
We're on a tight budget, and you're heading off to Halfords.
It'll be hard to find something that's fit for purpose within that remit!!

I've popped over to the dark side and here's some bits and pieces for you'

Brilliant. Wonder if any of us would manage a lap if the track on it?

Back to the turbo discussion; a new thing since I was racing is micro-intervals. You may all be familiar with them but I wasn't - 10s on 20s off or 30/30 and the like repeated for 10—20 minutes.

Thought I'd give them a go to change up the turbo sessions. Went something like this -

First few - "this feels OK, not sure they'll have much of an effect"

5 or 6 in - "wow, there really isn't much rest here"

After 10 or so - "ow!"

15 - "I feel sick"

20 - actually sicked a bit in my mouth

I ate too many doughnuts yesterday.

I share your pain.

How did the shopping go?

Excellent have the MAG elite training stand thingy, had a go last night the only bit you don't get is cars whizzing by, which is excellent and will get me going until the weather and light turns.

Halfords were doing 3 for 2, but started to lump six products together and give me the two cheapest. We soon changed that and put the three £50+ items together and then the three cheaper items and ended up saving £75 on the trainer, plus another £58, instead of £23, so all good.

Now some mileage on my Dawes road bike and then I'll return to which MTB.

Halfords have some VooDoo bikes? About half the price of a Carerra but the same bike ... apparently? My feeling is it's not so much the frame as the brakes, gears etc?

Cool, I thought you were bike shopping with £75 on the hip!!

I wouldn't be too surprised if they both came out of the same factory.
It's what happens with most road bikes, inc you're expensive carbon jobbies.
Assuming the 'apparently' is after a conversation with a Halfrauds monkey-boy, should tell you all you need to know about the bike buying experience there.

Traditionally the Boardman's are the best specced and VFM across the range.
The 'geek' note of caution is always buy it then take it to a proper bike shop for a service.

I spoke about these as the 2013 one, top spec was going for about £799, seemed a bargain when you look at it, for some reason the youngster, sorry, Bike Technician, said they weren't that good?

He said they all had VooDoo's, apparently more reliable and a better "brake/gear" set? * I took to read that the VooDoo had a catchier name and more funky decals, which won't mean a great deal when I'm trying to gain traction or stop before a significantly thick tree!

Taking into consideration I have little understanding of what is good and / or bad I nodded sagely and walked on, but even I thought it seemed a lighter and better bike and given a additional 20% off it seemed a good deal. He also pointed out if I took a chance and held off another couple of weeks I could see an additional saving.

I've been toying with getting a mountain bike, and the Voodoo's have been recommended on a number of websites, and from some mountain biking friends as excellent kit for the money.

That's interesting, may take another look. Someone mentioned that there is a VooDoo brand made in the US which is top notch and one made in Cambodia, for Halfords, so I guess need to check as to which one they are referring, but if it is UK Halfords may be worth me looking again.
