Thanks for the advice guys and sorry to butt in to your thread, it was a mountain bike I was after mainly for over the downs and light trails. I'll take your advice and try as many as I can, cheers.

No problem, it isn't our thread it is here for everybody. I know we probably appear quite cliquey to many with our 377 page thread, but we are always quite welcoming. Certainly compared to the bile and histrionics elsewhere on this site these days.

That does make me laugh.
Also when threads such as the 'how do I raise my handlebars' one.
Anyone would think you had to register to post on Geeks.

As said Pantani's you're man, deffo check out the bikes he mentioned.
I'd try and convince you, you need a cyclocross bike (which you don't).

Ditchling Beacon is like Burnley. It can f off.

You insensitive swine!

I did a mapmyride comparison of that and my cat 4. It made Ditchling Beacon a cat 3. The climb angles were very similar with the Beacon an extra 100ft to climb.

That's a shame, the latest tweet from @NOTSirWiggo did make me chuckle.
But it had a rude word in it, and I don't know how that works with google, so I've taken it off.

Put it back, SB. People have been getting round Google with those sweary postcards - you know..."Hey, you there..." etc.

Nobody from Google will see it, and you've whetted my appetite.

Oh God, oh yeah, Sorry Moto.

Ditchling Beacon is really not that hard, all things considered, and there'll be no traffic. The traffic is what I hate.

And the slope.

As alluded to in an interview last week, SM's cancelled the Tommy Simpson filming to do The Stone Roses.
Looks like we're back on:-

Pastures new for Meadows

Following the fan-boy euphoria of documenting his heroes the Stone Roses, Shane Meadows is knuckling down to a proper big-budget movie. The Midlands film-maker may be best known for a certain lo-fi approach to his wonderfully passionate films, but it appears his next project will be "in the £15-20m mark". Meadows is filming the story of Tommy Simpson, the Nottinghamshire cyclist who died of exhaustion in 1967 during the ascent of Mont Ventoux in the Tour de France.

"It'll be my first proper movie, with lots of cameras and a big crew," Meadows told me. "I've been scared to do it for a while, but shooting the Stone Roses concert with 30-odd cameras I realised I could do it. We'll be on location, up a mountain in France, and I'll be shooting a peloton, scenery, the lot." Just in case such new territory changes the Shane Meadows we know and love, he's also working on another slice of This Is England, set in 1990. "Could be film, could be telly," he says. "Doesn't bother me as long as I can get them all back together."

I wonder if the man chosen to play the charismatic Simpson – who won Sports Personality of the Year in 1965 – will come from Shane's trusted pack of actors?

Good morning geeks. I need to package my bike up for air freight. A cardboard box is fine. Are new boxes freely available from bike stores? I have done a bit of Internet searching but did not come up with much. I have previously obtained a used box from a shop but this was a long time ago and a shop I knew. I only have limited time in the UK so I prefer to buy one as opposed to phoning or dropping into shops hoping they have a spare used one for me. Any pointers will be appreciated.

Someone just sent me a used bike I bought in a new bike box they must have got from a shop. I'd image someone like Halfrauds would be a good bet as they have a high volume of bikes turning over. Don't know for sure though.

How are the 'projects' coming along?

I've just got my hands on a 1973(?) Elswick Hopper in British Racing Green with 3-speed Sturmey-Archer dynohub and rod brakes from eBay, that well-known "seller's market" for the princely sum of £31. It seems to have original everything and is in pretty good nick. A bit of rust here and there, but the tin foil/water combo is sorting the chrome bits out nicely. Photos will follow once I have taken some, so don't hold your breath!

I'm searching for a project as we speak!

Been to this site?

http://www.classiclightweights.co.uk/elswickhopper.html

Some amazing bikes and information on there.

Been scouring the internet for a classic English lightweight frame for months now!
