Di Luca has to be the least surprising positive ever!... We'll maybe ricco.

If this doesn't get him a lifetime ban then what will... Ridiculous.

Slightly more disturbing on a human level are the GW1516 positives. Google it and take a look at the risks, the fact that people would put this into their body is crazy.

Least positive ever in terms of his past and current performance levels certainly, but still a huge shock that he would be that silly knowing he'd have all eyes on him. It all beggars belief really and probably it's a cycle of addiction that he can't break as has been suggested elsewhere.

Following on from what you said, I found this artcile on GW1516 : http://cyclingtips.com.au/2013/04/the-new-epo-gw1516-aicar-and-their-use-in-cycling/ All very frightening.

Thought I'd make the most of a pissed off, rained off day and get to work on trying to replace my bottom bracket. Gave up when I still can't figure out exactly what tools I'd need to get the thing out even! Rang up the local bike shop and they charge £16 to replace a bottom bracket (+ parts obviously). Seemed a no brainer to me at that price to take this opportunity to form a relationship with them and let them do it rather than shell out on tools I'm so rarely going to use.

It's a bugger of a job and these days I'd definitely get the bike shop to do it, even if I've got the right tools.

I've penciled in a top to bottom service and overhaul next week.
Certainly for one bike maybe even both, fingers crossed I can keep the tourette's down to a minimum.

That's a punishing ride.
2 questions

A) Did you get your break pull/wheel alignment sorted?

2) This tweet has just reminded me, did you go shopping for a new jersey?

I'm going in tomorrow. After my ride (assuming it is dry).

No not yet. Lying low on purchases right now. I might go for proper pedals and shoes first but if I pull off that 200 using our vouchers, it'll be a long time before I can get away with more bike related purchases. Squeak.

Can't really mock as he's got this Giro sewn up but 1066's score today has to be a stage low for nsc! - 10!

That's just to be really cruel and steal SB's thunder :jester:

Seriously though, I'm pissed off with the game at the moment and their bollocks about the saved transfers for premium players not being a benefit. I was really hoping to break into the top ten overall now for the Giro but knew it would be a struggle because the premium players will have stacked transfers for Sunday's sprint stage. Now this Di Luca debacle has knocked my chances right on the head anyway. I'm only glad Pantani knows how level the playing field really is and done the right thing by insisting our league remains shut to those who want to buy themselves privilege.

Fair enough.

Pedals and shoes are far more important, I'd say more so than an all singing and dancing computer, let alone a jersey.
Even one that looks like this:-

Any ideas on pedals? I went for double sided SPD's and they came in well handy today when I cycled to the local bike shop and then walked home in normal trainers having left the cleats at home. I really like the look of speedplays though and would be tempted by these if I wanted out and out race bike pedals, but I've never tried speedplay or look.

Look Keo's for me, but as I've never ridden anything I guess I can't comment.
But I think they are great and certainly wouldn't think of trying any others.

Although I have heard good things about the Speedplay.

Speedplay are excellent but as the main part if the mechanism is in the cleat, they can wear easily. They provide really good adjustment as well.

Most people do very well with look keo.

You'll all be unsurprised to hear that I'm still using my 1998 campag chorus pedals with their own unique cleat!

You know what this means IL.

At some point this summer we are in for another round of 'my first unclipped fall' posts.

:rave: :lolol: :rave: happy happy days.

The float adjustment confuses me. I know speedplays do zeros and then float adjustable ones up to about 12 degrees I think? I'd love to be able to test ride different pedal and shoe systems and see what works, but that's never likely to happen is it. Buy and try and then sell on what doesn't work for you is the only option I suppose. Anyway, for me having come from years of using toe clips rather than cleats, the spd cleats are a step up enough I think and I still get the flat option for the rare occasions I need it.

Obviously there not, but SPD's always look so flimsy.
It's nice having the bulk of the important part of your foot attached to the bike, very seemless.

That Jersey is the business.

Not so sure about the new shoes and pedals really. Not yet anyway.
