Did anyone else take great pleasure in seeing Sagan blow up on that final climb!? He is human after all!

Why didn't I ever take more of an interest in cycling before? I feel like I've missed years of this stuff - obsessed now though

Yep, love Sagan but glad for numerous reasons to see him going backwards today. It would set alarm bells ringing if he'd done something amazing today considering the full programme he's had so far. If he's going to race one too many races now though, I'm surprised he didn't dip out of this and race L-B-L instead to be honest.

To be honest I feel a bit sorry for him. Cannondale have over raced him this Spring, Cancellara does the cobbled classics, then rests up. Sky have entirely different teams for the Ardennes and cobbles (same as most teams) Cannondale enter Sagan in virtually every race, since the last day of February he has ridden:

GP Citta di Camaiore
Strade Bianche
7 stages of a fiendishly difficult Tirreno-Adriatico
Milano - Sanremo
E3 Prijs Vlaanderen - Harelbeke
Gent - Wevelgem
2 stages of Driedaagse De Panne-Koksijde
Tour of Flanders
Brabantse Pijl
Amstel Gold
Fleche Wallonne

with six wins and five second places.

Cancellara has ridden five less days in that time, and does not have to ride in the Ardennes. Moser's poor form is probably to blame but Cannondale are running the very real risk of burning Sagan out by the end of May if he rides the Giro.

I'd be interested to know how much say Sagan had in riding today. It was presented as him choosing to ride, which wouldn't surprise me given his enthusiasm, but a good team would surely manage him with a wiser head than that. As you say, they're in real danger of killing the goose that lays the golden egg.

Points are up. Top work from Pantani to take 9th overall for the stage.

I'm not Team Sagan, but I'm certainly a Saganista.

It was pretty clear @ Flanders he was a prize fighter just swinging punches.
I didn't know anything about Brabantse Pijl until it turned up here, but factoring in a race that seemed 'given' to the big 2, still didn't fill me with Ardennes confidence.

He has to be done now, unless inexplicably he's not riding the Giro and just riding Le Tour (we all know that ain't happening).

As for Gilbert his 2012 season was only saved by the Worlds.
He's not the man of 2011, and he also strikes me as a man trading on muscle memory, but obviously as Bold says Sagan has age on his side.

Does anyone else have a 'charity' team?

I was pleased Anton got a top 10 today, but that really doesn't change the facts no Euskaltel-Euskadi rider should be anywhere near any fantasy team. Unless of course it's an event in a tiny part of NE Spain.

But I just can't help myself, compared to Lampre, Saxo-Tinkoff & Vacansoleil, I'll always spend the 3.0 on an EUS rider.

If the road goes up, as proven today EUS are always likely a place on Team Stat.
It wouldn't be so bad other than I know frack all about the riders, in question.

Yep, love those boys in Orange. Nearly always had one in my team last year, though that was probably more to do with the fact the Izagirre brothers were 3 credits each for the whole season rather than a sense of charity. In fact they have quite a few good point scorers and all through the grand tours they stick people in the break every time the road goes uphill. Vacansoleil have unfortunately stopped their habit of chasing Mountain Points in every tour which was rather useful in previous years. As for Lampre, they may be the most pointless team of all, I just don't understand what it is they are trying to achieve.

I managed to lose the plot and miss the last 2 races. Those 'L' plates ain't coming off any time soon.

Got up that 1 in 6 again tonight. Last week was no fluke.

Need to get up at daft o'clock on Saturday as Mrs M has booked her car in for a 9am MOT.

I think I'll stay up all night on reflection and head out about 2ish. I'm bound to get a puncture if I need to get back at a certain time. Being late would result in a very long stretch in the dog house.

Out.... On your bike...... At 2am.

That can't be right.
Not to mention dangerous.

You might think you have good lights, you probably do.
But what you don't have is night riding lights, they cost more than your bike.

You just won't be lite up enough.

Weather looks good for the London Marathon and the great Haywards Heath Bike ride starting at 9am in the Broadway. You can pre register on Saturday morning in the Orchards Shopping centre Haywards Heath or from 8am on Sunday. The Town Band will be seeing the race off. Any money you raise by your own sponsorship goes to your charity or cause. The entrance money goes to local causes. Thanks for those who have already signed up. Lets hope for three points on Saturday.

I can't make it Sunday, but thanks for posting, I was tempted but can't get out of other commitments. Hope it goes well, no pins or aggro from the good folk of Sussex unlike that horrible Hampshire lot down in the New Forest!
2.5k cyclists, landing on your doorstep.

Plus I'm sure if you look hard enough, you can find a New Forest event every Sunday from Match to October.

It's not right but I can certainly understand their frustrations.

It's a tourist destination SB, they have all sorts of events that the economy down there needs to survive! Trying to injury cyclists hardly seems the right way to go about it - so no, I don't understand their frustrations. We've had holidays down in Lymington for years, and they can be a pompous lot of nimby's down there - flat cap, green wellies, waxer jacket, look at me I'm rural but can't walk 5mins without taking the 4X4 bunch of tw*ts!!!
