Because I alternate the direction on my weekend ride and because I had a puncture 2 weeks ago, I had to look bike quite a way to check how I compared with my last one. Another 7 mins or so off the time which I'm pleased with given the change in riding style (drop it down a cog or 2 and go for a more cardio ride).

Oh, I'm nearly fully compliant with rule 33 now.
Good stuff, at this rate you'll be winning the L2B.

Is a 53/39 crank set a total no no for a 14 yr old, even when teamed with a 12/29 on the back? I suspect the answer is yes, you must go compact or smaller double, but curious to know if he'd manage it without doing himself an injury?

So far I'm batting with:

1 x Liq/Can
1 x BMC
1 x VCD
1 x OGE
1 x AG2R
1 x Mov
1 x OPQS
2 x Garmin

I've been settled on this all week. I fear a tinkering coming on tonight though after last minute research and doubts :nono: I'd like the confidence to stick rather than twist.

Now 1 Katusha & 2 Movistar, and I think I'm done.

It's catching! Two tinkers since my last post already.

Think I'll be having a little e/w flutter on a 100/1 Frenchie for this one too.

Edit: just had a look and he's double the odds on paddy power! That's the bookies to go with on cycling odds that's for sure! Makes me sort of reluctant to bet with the account I'm stuck with now.

With Sagan and Gilbert in the field, there's some value about, I don't think either will podium.

AVV at 12+/1 has to be printing money!

I hope that Valverde doesn't perform tomorrow, as I have, at the last minute, decided to give him some gardening leave.

So, we're going by team this time...

2 x Sky
2 x BMC
2 x Omega Pharma-Quick Step
1 x Greenedge
1 x Astana
and the lead singer of U2.

Blimey, that's a bold prediction! Did you not watch on Wednesday? And I take it you do know they've moved the finish line on another 1.5km meaning it suits Sagan even more? Yes, I know AGR is much harder than Brabantse Pijl, but I'd look for odds on that non podium prediction - should be pretty good I reckon.

Clearly facts do have some bearing over bold statements, but as this is no place for facts I'm sticking with wild conjecture.

That's what I like to hear. I've had a pound on wild and matched in on conjecture to see if a young Frenchie can Gallop onto the podium  Fact!

A tad too obvious do you think for the "what happened next?" section of Question of Sport?

They are being chased by Jelle Vanendert (Lotto) and Klaas Sys (Crelan-Euphony).

He can 'Offredo' now for all I care, getting a mention has made my race.

Nice work getting him in the break. This 6 man group now over 10 minutes up the road as far as I can tell. You should have no trouble getting your well earned 10 breakaway points today. Top picking

In simple terms, yes - 53/12 is far too big for youth riders. You could limit that bike to the 39t chainring and 13t sprocket fairly easily though.

CATEGORY
Age on 1st Jan
TRACK RACING NOTE:
The Gear restrictions shown are the MAXIMUM gear you are permitted to use in each age group. Tyre width and tyre pressure will alter the distance travelled per revolution so riders are advised to always roll out the gear prior to a competition to ensure they are within the limits. You may use any combination of chainring and sprocket, providing you do not exceed the maximum distance travelled per revolution. Refer to the current BC Rule Book for any amendments.

The formula for calculating the gear in metres is:

Gear in metres = Diameter of rear wheel in metres × π (3.14) × No of teeth on chainring ÷ No of teeth on sprocket.
YOUTH A (Under 16) 6.93 metres
YOUTH B (Under 14) 6.45 metres
YOUTH C (Under 12) 6.05 metres
YOUTH D (Under 10) 5.40 metres
YOUTH E (Under 8) 5.10 metres
