G out of the Giro with a fractured pelvis. Amazed he finished yesterdays stage tbh after seeing the video of his crash.

Maybe he should take up running :whistle:

I guess that depends on if he's prepared to change him character and be insulting, derogatory and demeaning, or not. :lolol:

I do get that.

The main thing I struggle with when cycling off the road is horses that cut up all the bridleways. Who do they think they are.:lolol:

I prefer to run, because of the simplicity of it, I walk out the door, after a quick warmup and put on a good pair of shoes, and off I go. No fighting to get the bike out of the shed, then checking it over, pumping up tyres etc.

I also like the fact on a cold day the wind chill is so much less as your not moving so fast and the aerobic effect seems to be greater unless you are cycling up long inclines. But of course, you can cheat yourself going downhill freewheeling.

To me, it seems a no brainer that running is ahead of cycling in every department apart from poor hips and knees.

Please tell me if there is anything else I am missing?

I am generally interested in why this thread has so many posts???

I'd love to be able to go out for a simple run. I used to quite a lot in my early 20s. Now though cycling seems a much 'smoother' cardio workout. It amazes me how few roads and routes you use in a car. I'm lucky to have a lot of countryside between home and work, so going home a different way on a summer day is a calming end to the day while keeping me fit.

That sounds like a great work/leisure balance. I am okay about cycling on my 25 years old + mountain bike on a summers day, but cycling in cold wet conditions don't excite me at all. I am fortunate enough to have sorted out my body tweaks enough to run, and the rain and cold does not bother me, as I soon warm up.
However in the hot weather and it's jump on the bike with an engine in it!.

Which is why we wear the cycling specific clothing on which the manufacturers have spend billions of pounds in research and development.

-7 is the coldest conditions I've had on a decent length ride (about 70 miles).
I was perfectly warm and comfortable and able to regulate my body temperature as the morning and I warmed to about zero.

I ridden through biblical rain, got wet, then dried off fairly well, certainly well enough to comfortably continue.

I've ridden in high 20 degrees probably more, obviously that's just 'hot' so temp becomes less relevant, but it was the coolest I'd been that day.

It's almost as if we wear the correct clothing for the sport for reasons other than to be derided car drivers, while having a 'look at me in my clip clop shoes' god complex.

Watched the highlights of the Giro on Quest last night. It took a while to realise who the guest Philippa York was, her intro as stage winner in 1987 confused me as I didn't remember a women's event back then. Then the penny dropped that it was none other than one of my first sporting heroes. I must keep up at the back because this news completely passed me by.

Maglia Nera for you Zee!

Been common knowledge & "out there" for a couple of years now, if not more, on what happened to Robert Millar. Surprised me at first, but dont think anything of it now tbh. Still remember those golden days of Millar dancing up the mountains in the mid/late 80s & early 90s fondly though - such a superb climber & bike rider.
Its great that Pippa now feels happy and comfortable enough to get back into the cycling spotlight - and seems to have been welcomed with open arms by the majority of the cycling fraternity. Well worth reading her columns in Rouleur magazine too.

Exactly this, with the exception of minority I doubt many people think they look great in their cycling gear but the other night I rode home at the start of Storm Alex and with the exception of looking like I'd had a couple of pints at times due to heavy cross winds I was warm and comfy and only realised how soaked I was once I'd got home and got changed.

Of course if I didn't have 250W of Bosch's finest engineering giving me a helping hand I'd probably have ended up in Worthing rather than Peacehaven.

Loving the Giro so far...despite the crappy weather. Italy has a new hero

Che razza Filippo Ganna!

I have a Kona Kikapu 2005 which has served me brilliantly and am thinking of upgrading, want full suspension again.

There aren't that many bikes for sale at present seeing as suddenly fashionable again so been looking at Kona Process 134 AL 29 2021, can any good NSC people in the know suggest anything better around that price ?
