I dont know if anyone else has started following the womens racing as it has got more exposure on TV the last couple of years?, but this is a really interesting story from Team Chevalmeire. They have some top class riders this year, and will possibly get some decent results with Thalita de Jong, & maybe Puck Moonen - but I didn't realise they had one of the very few (the only one?) transgender riders in the peloton amongst their ranks....Nathalie Van Gogh.
I'll admit that when I first saw the team photos a while back I thought something didn't look quite right - but reading the story about her, in her own words, is really worth checking out....whatever your views on the subject.

Personally, I say good on her after going through years of loneliness, mental torment, & finally finding acceptance within a sport she loves. Quite possibly a very similar story to Robert Miller / Philippa York, albeit her transformation being after retirement.

Worth a read over a cup of coffee this morning.

I've been following women's' racing for a while. They put in as much training and deserve greater coverage and better events. I'd like to see racing teams be compelled to run male and female teams. The men get a 3 week tour of France whereas the woman get a stage if lucky. We should be proud that out event is the biggest. Let them have the events they want.

Well, what beautiful scenery Saudi Arabia has, said Carlton Kirby, repeatedly.

Only point of note seems to be quantity of disc brakes on display. Not on the lovely green De Rosa though.

Corrected for you.

I was absolutely gutted that he somehow popped up on both Valencia and Saudi coverage.
That ambient sound option on Eurosport Player will start to get much more use from me this season at this rate.

Not really surprising when its all done from a studio over here!

If you had bothered going to his talk in Brighton :wink::lolol: he told us that there has been a lot of cost cutting measures since Discovery took over Eurosport...so most of their work each season is done without them leaving the country. Also likely to mean they dont commentate "live" from the Grand Tours much longer either. Apparently it costs 60k (per commentator) to be in the media box on the finish line at the TDF....which is then just simply divided into small cubicles with other global TV networks. Hardly seems worth it in this day and age when they just watch the same pics as us on a TV. Would save on all the fuel, travel time, and hotel costs too.

Driver denied he was driving and was only punished with not nominating a driver.

Any link to that info?

I find that almost impossible to believe. It's a Tesco vehicle. How can they not know who was driving it at the time? Unless it was stolen.

Such a sad, lonely end for an incredible rider.

Quite prescient post that.

Quintana's time up Ventoux yesterday, albeit not the full length, looks to be almost Pantaniesque. Pretty impressive at this stage of the season.

Really enjoying Provence. Especially as the player only has an ambient option. No commentary 👍

God for Nairo to end his season on a high.

Who did he sit behind then?

No one for the final 7km. Only had the French national champion to lead him out too :D

The shadow is no more! :)

Really enjoyed the TdlP the last few days. Really surprised it wasn't picked up for broadcast by Eurosport on the main TV channel, but good to see GCN covering it in full for those of us without ES Player.
As for Quintana, a record time up Ventoux (albeit to Chalet Reynard) is potentially a good sign of things to come. Moving to Arkea Samsic could give him a new lease of life this year...& already has if this early form is anything to go by.

It's so out of character for The Shadow to ride strongly halfway up a mountain.

Did they have commentary on the GCN YouTube?

If so, who did it?

I enjoyed watching with no commentary and my printed startlist at hand.
