Football is all about opinions and mine is that Currie is a luxury that we do not need and could do without. He flatters to deceive hence he has never spent any time in a higher league. He went to Ipswich in the Championship and they loaned him out granted to Coventry, who were struggling in that division, and when Ipswich let him go who wanted him, us and Luton which tells you a lot about his ability and contribution to the team.

just read the last post Yes Brooker was unlike Currie in that he could go past players at speed with or without the ball and still put in a decent cross from the goalline.

That is the whole point he doesnt offer competition for places because he doesnt do enough in a game. If this Mc Leod is the bees knees as has been suggested that is the left side taken and there is then Jake and Coxy to fight over the other unless a younger, faster version of Currie, like Paul Brooker comes along.

ps David Beckham also tracked back sometimes which Currie has never done in his career that is why he always played in the lower leagues and never reached the heights that his passing should have taken him..

Oh and like Brooker worked his arse off tracking back ??
The point is, Currie brings some creativity to the team. He's not in there to track back, make tackles and get up and down the flank. We've got others for that. He's there to put his foot on the ball and pull some strings.

Do you remember John Sheridan when he was in his latter years playing in this league for Oldham ? I recall watching him at Withers one afternoon and the guy barely left the centre circle for thge entire game. But his PASSING was unbelievable, he made the whole team tick.

Think its probably best for us to agree to disagree - I think its a fair assumption that most people will be please to see Currie back though.

Because at this level most of the play goes through the centre of midfield for which we have Thomson and Livermore. The same happened last season with Whittaker of Port Vale was it or Crewe mind is playing havoc at this time of night.

definitely, also darren anderton in the "wayne henderson mighty last minute f*** up" game for bournemouth, and also suprisingly, darren ferguson could do similar

So if Currie played in CM and Cox stayed on the right would you be happy to sign him? I would presume we are looking to sign an attacking midfielder anyway as Livermore and Thomson are two very similar players.

I would be more inclined to say yes as we have enough youngsters that can do his running in the centre and just allow him to play the Darren Anderton way or as we had in years gone by Denis Mortimer and Jimmy Case in his latter years.

Fair enough, can't really argue with that. I mentioned not long back on here (probably the last transfer window when he almost signed) that he would be a good CM player. Will be interesting to see what happens when he does sign.

honestly i dont think we need currie , it would be good to have him back but we despartly need a left back at the moment and we are filling places for positions that we already currently have 2/3 places for now

What utter gash when people say we don't need him etc.We need a big squad to compete for promotion. It's called having depth in the squad. It's that simple

Good news, if it comes off. We might actually be able to take set pieces next year without being absolutely fricking clueless.

Yes, it would be nice to:

1. See a goal direct from a free kick
2. Get a corner past the 1st defender in the post..

For a change.

For what it's worth (very little, to be fair) I think he's a key player for us this coming season, as he offers (as has been mentioned) a level of skill / flair / ability that is sorely missing at this level. He will be part of the answer to getting 40+ goals between Murray & Forster this season...

Not a bad signing if it happens, a bit slow now. But can win games with free kicks and corners with his delivery.

A bit slow "now"? He was always slow, otherwise he'd have been playing in the Premier League by the time he was in his mid-20s...... his technique's good enough.

Great signing. A bit like Teddy Sheringham, he's not going to be hampered by a lack of pace as he gets older as he never had any in the first place.
