my second choice, slides into category 12 and I present a man who made is debut against our wonderful club:

surprised he hasn't already been picked to be honest

Ladies and Gentlemen... David Beckham

Picking a retired footballer for a current world XI? A bold strategy.

Unless you want him as manager?

Ooh controversy! To be fair, hasn't he played this season? Or am I mistaken?

But then he wouldn't fit into any of the managerial categories.

Not sure what you mean really?
Could fit into the category the op chose very nicely as manager......unproven obviously which could go against when voting is done but he fits if the op wants him

No, he can't. He's never managed against us, managed a team for 200+ games, manager an international team, won titles as a manager...

He hasn't played this season, his last game was the final week of the 12/13 season.

As techincally tomfitz12 has had his two picks (and I'm not around tomorrow morning.) I'm going to keep the draft going. When he comes on he is free to change Beckham for somebody else. Didn't really plan for this to happen, so I've had to make a decision on the fly.

Edit: Unless people object. Just a potential 20 hour gap seems like a bit of a pisser.

^^ Managers are judged based on their managerial careers. In the opening post I've tried to list down the rules for managers. For example, a manager can't be selected in the "over 30 category". If any of them are still a bit unclear then let me know and I'll go over it again.

I've had to check to make sure this player hasn't been picked twice now, 'cos I'm shocked he's still free after 61 picks.

They fit in to EIGHT categories.

Category 1 - Has played at least 200 times for one club.

Category 2 – Has made over 70 International appearances.

Category 4 - Plays/Manages outside the “top 5” leagues.

Category 5 – Has been the top goal scorer in a top-flight season.

Category 6 – Played football in at least 4 different countries

Category 8 – Has played in a Champions League Semi-Final/Final.

Category 10 - Has won a league title with 2 different clubs.

Category 11 – Is over 30 years old.

My next pick can either qualify for the young player category or the 'yet to play in a World Cup' category. He has played in an Under 20 World Cup though, winning it with France in 2013 and being named Player of the Tournament. He was also 'Golden Boy 2013'. He's only made 84 senior club appearances plus 8 senior international appearances for France. I think he's already one of the best midfielders in the world, and will go from strength to strength. He's Manchester United's second biggest mistake of recent years, but, in fairness, given the high quality of their midfield, it's difficult to see how he could have got a game.

With 11 goals in 54 league appearances for Juventus...it's Paul Pogba!
