Nothing wrong with them- some of them are lovely- especially the red velvet ones. Nothing to do with being prentious just an American "Sex in the City" thing that has taken off same as Bagels and Manhattens.

Cupcakes have been superseded by Whoopie Pies, which have already been superseded by something else probably.

Don't like cake much and would never sink my savings into a business that is so obviously a passing fad.

These are Whoopie Pies:

They are the most vile creation known to man.

I had one last week and thought a child had thrown up in my mouth

You spent yesterday evening sat in Selfridges eating cupcakes with your wife. You are the reason I started this thread, you are not welcome here.

Yeah cupcakes are pretty rubbish. Essentially they are fairy cakes which we used to make to sell at school fairs for 20p, but with too much butter icing on top! The latest thing that someone has managed to jack the price up without anyone saying "hang on a minute! (see also, coffee).

THIS!

though i read that they were on the way out and Whoopie Pies were the latest fad...dont shoot the messenger cupcake lovers.

Cupcakes are the new Crack apparently, reports suggest they could be as addictive as cocaine.

I'd have to admit to being fairly ambivalent as regards cupcakes - to be fair I don't know anybody from Hampstead and it's always possible that if I did the situation may well be very different.

What are everybody's views on this new 'in thing'?

I absolutely hate it. Middle class, Hampstead, Primrose Hill, private school, oh yes lets go for cupcakes and champagne darling CRAP CRAP CRAP. They're not even very nice, they are ridiculously expensive for a rubbish cake, and they look stupid. Some twats even have wedding cakes made out of cupcakes now. What a load of shit. If I was given a birthday cake made out of cup cakes I'd smash the thing in the bastard who gave it to me's face.

Does anybody else feel as strongly as I do?

the 'in thing'? you're a little behind the times mate, its all about the whoopie pies these days

I don't like them but blame the US of A not Hampstead yuppies.

Works both ways. Whenever I go back to the UK the Yanks at work always put in a request for M&S mince pies and those chocolate biscuit selection packs – they really like them because there’s nothing like that in the shops over here.

They are pretty annoying. They never seem to taste very nice. They are expensive. You might as well buy a proper cake.
