I owned Mk1 Escort Mexico in the 90’s. It was a dog, but naturally I wish I’d hung onto it. I chopped it in for a Mk5 Escort as I wanted something with a heater that worked and a rear wash wipe....

Love that story!

I can't even remember what a Mk 5 looked like.

I had the Mk1 escort, but the estate version, it was great for drifting!

Citroen Maserati
Dino Ferrari
Alfa GTV stepfront
Alfa Spyder Duetto (Dustin Hoffman in Mrs Robinson)
Citroen 2CV
Citroen Traction (Maigret)
Lancia Delta Integrale

Alpine A110

I could go on and on

Now THATs a great list of cars!

Ive owned a Citroen GS, 2 DSs and 2 CX. The CX is a seriously underrated car.

Surely the Beetle must rate as a cult car.

I had an Audi 80 that would spin forever on the front wheels.
I had a Capri on looks alone, but as a car, it was pants IMO.
I had some women on the same basis strangely enough.

Datsun 100A Cherry. Probably not :)

I had one of them, great for thrashing up Bury hill in 3rd gear, while everyone was changing down Mouldy was doing a whacky race and overtaking them.

Never used a drop of oil, but rust ran through it like wildfire.

I would love a 911/930 Porsche Turbo or 911/993 with a big whale tail.

I miss the classic square shape cars used to have, like the E30 M3 for example.

The Tommy Macken Evo 6 and the Scooby P1 are a couple modern classics you rarely see these days.

Audi Quattro

I bought a Quattro turbo but it was a messed-up renovation.

After spending lots of money on it, I found that it needed new pistons and at £1950 that was more than I could afford.
I had an Audi coupe which was great but in hindsight I would have bought a better version of the Quattro.

Would also have loved to have had a VW Corrado.

Today on Bangers & Cash a Ford Capri Mk 4 280 Brooklands came up for sale.
Only 1,038 were made, all in BRG, 2.8 litre V6, 160 BHP.
Garaged all its life it had done just under 5000 miles, it was perfect and totally original.
Now there is a cult car, yours for £20,000.
I could name so many but the car that everyone seemed to really want in Tunbridge Wells back in those days was a Ford Cortina Mk 2 1600E.
There were so many cars in that era that are cult now, if I could get my hands on just one now in perfect condition it would probably be a Toyota Supra.
Don't forget cult crap, Hillman Imps spring to mind.

The only cars I have had with any “street cred” are an XR3 that I bought off Keelo and a Ford Granada Ultima V6 Cosworth that cost more in petrol than I paid for it - it had to go when I had to drive to Redhill from Brighton on a daily basis.
I always wanted a Ford Probe - just because they looked quite cool. Glad I didn’t.

Not cult cars, but Hot Hatch from mid seventies. Peugot 205 GTI was awesome Had 1.6 then 1.9. Best hot hatch by a mile IMO. Also had Renault 5 Gordini Turbo, good but not as much fun to drive, as well as Escort with a janspeed turbo fitted that glowed red hot and blew the engine ! At the time Lancia Delta Integrale was the one to have which I couldn`t afford.

VW Beetle.

I owned a 1973 Cal look bug, it was really cool but utterly hideous to drive.

I’d absolutely love a Renault 5 GT Turbo Raider and a Nissan Sunny GtiR.

Had a couple of Minis when very young. Add to that a V reg Citroën 2CV. Also had a MK1 Toyota MR2 and a beautiful 911SC with a whale tail, I think that’s all the cult/classic cars I’ve had.

My 911, sadly sold in 1998
