That's very true, so see it from our point of view competing with basically the whole of London, (you lot only have Crawley to worry about, who btw hate us for some unknown reason,) and we dont exactly have the same size of 'catchment' area as you lot do.

They were singing "We hate Brighton" at the FA Cup draw last year. f*** know's why

I thinkl we must bear in mind that BHA have not been able to beat Palace this season and all we have achieved is one point from two games. Nothing to crow about methinks!

Whilst you are competing with the rest of London, there are 8 million people in that city.

Maybe if you step outside the world of NSC and it's Palace equivalents, the Brighton - Palace game isn't the be all and end all it used to be?

well its lucky for brighton your owners didn't take that view when you failed to fill an 8000 stadium on a regular basis, or perhaps you are one of the plastics who never went to the withdean

i guess you have been waiting for 24 years when you last had bigger crowds than us to make this comment

all clubs get bigger crowds when they move to new stadiums
I don't want to get into this willy-waving contest about attendances and I'll even admit you have a point. When our new ground was being built there was quite a lot of speculation on here as to whether we'd fill it. Several people, not just sneering Palace fans, said that if we were having problems selling out an 8,000 stadium on a regular basis, how could we expect to sell out a 22,000 one? One of the reasons why we were confident that we could was the 'Falmer factor', or to be more precise the 'Withdean factor'. We all knew Withdean was a shithole, and many Brighton fans, myself included, found the unfootball-like surroundings and the crap, temporary open-air stands a massive turnoff. We knew that given a proper ground we could tap into the latent and dormant Brighton support and easily double our attendances which is what we've done, indeed we've done better than that and MUCH quicker than we thought.

Anyway, the reason for all that preamble is to ask a question: do you think there is a 'Selhurst factor' amongst Palace fans? Do people not go to Selhurst Park because it is (relatively speaking) a shithole and they prefer places like The Emirates or the massively-refurbished Stamford Bridge instead?

There are quite a few grounds that are worse than Selhurst. It's not great for people using their own cars but there again neither is Falmer. The thing is that Palace, rather like us at The Goldstone cannot expand there because of the local housing. If they could find a brownfield site in the locale, something that is probably harder to do than it was for us the land at Selhurst Park could be worth a lot for development, it's ideal for commuting.

However, I thought that Selhurst Park was supposed to no be used for housing, I seem to recall this being said repeatedly when Palace were on the verge of going bust second time around. If so how will they finance this proposed new stadium ?

Perhaps one of their directors has Tony Bloom's PIN number?

I'll think you find that is bullshit. Your owners are so rich they are scrabbling away trying to think of ways to fund this new stadium whereas ours opened his big fat wallet and to date has shelled out £110 million+ with millions more earmarked for the extra seats and new academy. Parish himself has been quoted as saying he isn't sure how the money will be raised but it shouldn't be too hard, has that clown actually looked at the economy lately. Your owners are full of hot air and empty promises pal. And who gives a toss how many we got at the goldstone or withdean? It's completely irrelevant what is plain to see is that right now and for the foreseeable future your noddy little club will be in our shadow in every way, ye you may win the odd game and spunk yourself stupid over it but you are now our bitch.

Haha, what a mug you are. Keeping believing that last bit all you want, a new, fancy stadium doesn't win you games of football, otherwise Oxford and Darlington would be in the Prem! I'd like to think our awesome young talent (that you can't get close too) will see us ahead of you for the next few years and by that time our new stadium will be in place so we're be above you on that part as well!

Only someone who watches football at Shithurst Park could think Oxford play at a fancy stadium!! What a strange example to pick.

Fair enough Botty. When i've seen it on TV it always looks ok but i guess not. Ok, lets swap them for Huddersfield. A club that has a decent looking and sized stadium but has been in League One for 10 years. My point still stands, football is not won off the pitch. I know that's all you have on us at the moment but to keep harping back to attendences/better stadia is desperate and also so very very ironic given what yours have been like in the past.

Palace used to win games by spending other peoples' money. Now they have been caught out twice they are just development team for clubs who can afford to pay their way.

I agree, but I was more wondering if the Palace fans thought that the stadium, not the police or the prices, but Selhurst Park itself was putting people off.

Withdean
My first thought last night was that based on Selhurst's capacity that the given attendance was too low to be true. Sure there were some corners of empty seats but I thought the capacity was around 26K. That means it was officially only 2/3rds full. Didnt look it last night - though from the away seats I couldnt see rest of Arthur Waite - was it empty? If not a call to HMRC shall be made. Rather than laugh at the decline of this little club I'd far rather get them in trouble with the taxman - anyone got any pics of the Arthur Waite from the opposite end?

Selhurst Park is no Amex but on the other hand it's no Withdean either. The problem is that many Palace fans are fed up with having a mediocre team which has limited ambitions.

Stupid boy. By opening your trap and coming out with drivel like this simply confirms the fact you are thick. Your epic young crop of youngsters are indeed clearly and factually revelation. May I refer the gentleman to a point raised by someone else on here yesterday - if your youngsters are indeed that 'awesome' how is it that you are generally quite toilet?

i don't think most fans decide to go somewhere else they just decide not to go
i'm not one of them if Palace played in a park i would be there
one of the things that is so pathetic about these attendance threads is that if you look at our crowds they don't change much over the years
the only thing that has changed is your sudden so called fans who clearly don't have any loyalty like your hardcore of 6000
