Yes I agree its embarrassing. But this is from the Palace supporters club...they are nothing to do with the so called "ultras"

Supporter clubs are not usually the sort of fans that cause trouble in my experience. (In fact I have read on here that sometimes your supporter club members have made embarrassing complaints before )

Anyway permission to hang my head and walkaway sighing !!

Was it 2002 they kept us there for well over an hour? Got to Norwood Jct about 7pm.

It's strange how it makes no mention of the pathetic actions of a lot of Palace which led to this situation. For example the large pack of black hooded yoofs scuttling around Brighton frightening the grannies and mums with prams 7 hours before KO, leaving a trail of spray paint and stickers.

Whilst I agree that the Palace fans have a lot to answer for regarding storming the gates and forcing their way into the Amex, I do think that there are legitimate questions regarding the policing on the day. I’m going Saturday and have no intention of drinking anywhere near Selhurst. Why Palace Ultras felt the need to come to Brighton and not expect trouble/hassle I don’t know, but having said that, the policing of them from town to Amex does sound like a balls up. Clearly the statements from police post match were also a mistake and caused further angst. If it were the other way round I’m pretty sure we’d want some answers.

Yes, that is true to an extent, Quinney -a small extent. The story of the weapons was a huge error, however it originated and I think it might be reasonable to question exactly what went wrong, if indeed it did. However, as you say, the blame lies entirely with the Palace mob, determined to be as difficult as possible. If you want to be part of it, then you accept the consequences. You quite legitimately want to have a few beers miles away and thus avoid any problems -it really is that simple IF you want to avoid problems.

Sadly, it is the same old story over again. A minority of idiots, and all clubs have them, make life difficult for the majority through their antics. I imagine those smoke bombs must have been a real pain for most of the Palace fans affected, who, as we ,are decent folk.

I suspect it will be the same as every other palace away game if you are using the train, frogmarched to the station where you can choose to get on any train you like.

Palace fans launch official complaint against Sussex Police

PA 34384004 Palace fans brighton
Crystal Palace fans have lodged an official complaint against Sussex Police following their treatment at the club’s trip to Brighton & Hove Albion in November 2017.

Instructing specialist solicitors to act on their behalf - Crystal Palace Supporters’ Trust (CPST) argue that Crystal Palace supporters who had caused no trouble were subject to “extremely coercive policing”.

The Trust say that the events at the fixture on 28th November, which included blanket ‘kettling’ and escorting of Palace fans, have significantly damaged supporters’ trust and confidence in Sussex Police.

The letter says: “The CPST request that the failures as outlined are investigated thoroughly and that those officers responsible for these foreseeable failures are appropriately disciplined.”

Superintendent Simon Nelson has also been criticised for spreading false accusations against Palace fans who, he claimed on his Twitter account, had brought knives and knuckledusters to the fixture – an allegation Sussex Police later admitted was false.

“There has never been a public explanation for the source of the incorrect information promulgated by Supt. Nelson both in the press release and then in his tweets,” CPST said.

“It is unacceptable for an officer, and a senior officer no less, to put forward very serious allegations without evidence to back them up.”

A Freedom of Information request, submitted by the Five Year Plan Palace fanzine, seeking answers about the allegations has yet to be answered – despite the statutory limit for a response having long expired.

CPST’s letter to Sussex Police’s Head of Professional Standards was submitted by ITN solicitors, who have represented supporters previously in actions against the police. The FSF also provided financial and practical support.

“The Trust would like to thank all the fans who came forward to share their stories, and to supporters, and the FSF who (along with the Trust) co-funded this action,” CPST said yesterday. “The Trust would also like to help FYP Fanzine for their support.”
