.......Stimson then rated his replacement in midfield more highly and picked him, although this is not an opinion shared by most Gillingham regulars.

Maybe we've got the better of another 'Dean Saunders vs Richard Tiltman*' difference of opinion?

*those younger than 30 may need to ask their dads about that.

Last season he was farmed out to Peterborough on loan (they didn’t want him) and eventually he ended up on loan at Wrexham (in the Conference) where he did little or nothing (their fans didn’t rate him)

Erm, most of us did - he looked a class apart - and he joined us just as our season fell apart, we were in a rut of woeful form and he was one of the players who looked bothered.
You've got a good signing there.
We made him an offer but always knew he'd be moving to a better club than us.
This is off our forum:
good player but i think he could have played for a champiionship club
good signing for brighton
i think they could make the play offs next year
its nice to see them come out of all the trouble they have been in
and their getting a new ground good look to them! and andy !

And this...
thought he was in a different class in every department...the amount of forward runs he made which were never picked out...some of the tackles and the general leadership from midfield...he would have been the ideal central midfielder/captain figure we have lacked for so long...always too good for the Blue Square...and this has proved it...

now THAT sounds good :ascarf:

On balance and if RS can get the best out of him - we could have a very good player who has demonstrated his ability at this and higher levels.

Keep it going Russ and you are on the way to building a very promising squad. Hopefully the difference this year will be that we have a manager who can actually get a half decent team to play better than half decent football :ascarf::ascarf::ascarf:

To me, that is the whole point. It is far more important that a manager bring a player in who wants to play for him, and fits into the type of team the manager is putting together, than bringing in a "name" who plays for himself and doesn't further the team.

I firmly believe that a decent manager with sound tactics and man management skills can turn a mediocre player, into a top performer.

He was good but has been far from impressive in recent times, but if slade can't get him back to his best then who can?seems as soon as he was made captain at gillingham it all went wrong.:glare:
