After hearing several times before that Craig failed in his last attempt at the Championship, i just saw on the BBS that CMS' record in the Championship with a relegated side was 11 goals in 39 games. Is that not actually, rather good?

11 goals in a team that only score 46 odd is pretty good

if the supply line is decent then you'd have to expect him to score more - anything over 15 and id think that is a good first season for him

unfortunately, the money spent and the "we are going up" nonsense being trotted out by people both on here and on facebook seems to suggest that people are going to expect him to smash home 30 odd goals, which i dont think will be the case at all

a relegated side who had 4 managers over the course of the season with all the changes in terms of tactics, organisation and personnel that involves.

I'd say that it was exceptional and when you add to that his own statement that he learned more in that season about what he needed to do to improve then followed it up with a 35 goal season................?

I reckon that he will get 25 goals in all competitions this season which I suspect will be at least 10 goals more than Glenn. I suspect he will also create more goals for others in at least the same ratio.

It's not that they are deluded on the BBS, it's just that they'll spin anything they can to avoid the elephant in the room - that we're witnessing the changing of the guard. We're about to take our rightful place as top dog in the area, while they slum it in their crumbling old rickety "stadium". And soon, division 3.

an alternative way to look at his record is that adam virgo got eight goals having played around 3/4 of the season as a centre forward at that level

Meopham, Kent.
That season in The Championship, Peterborough were a complete shambles, and he still got to double figures. 15-20 would be a great season IMHO, and if he got 11 playing in a rubbish team, then I think 15-20 is perfectly gettable.

Agree with all the above, Boro were a basket case that season, I thought he did outstandingly well to get 11 goals in that team.

Leicester, West Ham and QPR all thought he could step up. he will suit our style far more than the poor form Peterborough were in that year. at worse, he should tie up defenders with pace and allow the other striker(s) more space to get the goals.

Pele would have struggled in that team, not a great indication of whether a player is good or bad, rather like Murray the first two and a half years here.

I'm just curious to know more about his past - there doesn't seem to be much info on wikipedia. Why did he develop so late? Did he suddenly think, at the age of 22, oh, I'll give this football malarkey a go?

I think that's exactly it. We're building an evolution of last year's beautiful to watch passing football team with Mackail-Smith as the hardworking, pacey frontman that defenders will absolutely hate playing against. We've shown we can get balls in from all over the pitch and this man knows what to do with them

That's a good target to set himself. Along with all the assists as well that should be a decent return.

With our main playmaker having moved on to pastures new (Bennett) at the moment we will being looking for Buckley and Noone to get the 20+ assists he was worth. As good as I think Dicker , Bridcutt and Spadge are I am not convinced they are the most creative.....anyone got the assist count for the rest of the team for last season ?

20 would be an amazing return considering we're the newboys to the league. I'd take 15 now. Still can't believe he chose us, the boy is different gear!

33 days to go............

this article makes very interesting reading about the success or lack thereof of league 1 top scorers stepping up. Leon Knight was in the failed category.

In our 02-03 relegation season, Bobby got 14 goals out of our 49 - so CMS's 11 stands up quite well imo.
