What really disappointed me was that Dickinson and Davies were given the chance to stake a claim for a spot in the front two. Now they know how good Muzza and Fozzie were on Sunday and need to show commitment amongst other things! I thought both were poor (Dickinson brightened up before the was subbed). Davies needs ball to feet and to run at defenders and can't cope any other way and Dicko does not get stuck enough or use his hight and build to his advantage. At the moment anywy Nicky and Glenn are safe.

I think one of the problems looking at Dickinson and Davies together is that they both seem similar style players - and whilst being in the same team do not actually play together. It happened at Lancing last week and again last night.

I make no excuses i'm a big fan of Davies so perhaps i'm a little shortsighted with my opinion of him BUT it seems to me he does alot right but has and is failing to find the target. Surely you must see some potential in him?

I know he has been given plenty of chances but I still have faith in him and maybe i'm f***ing crazy but I feel he has alot to offer to the club and feel his contribution will evenually lead to a hat full of goals.

Perhaps, but with Forster, Murray & Dickinson around, I doubt he'll get that many more chances.

well if not lazy then unfit saw him play last night he was holding his side out of breath all the time. only saying what i saw,is this just the way he plays?

first start for a while (not sure how many he got at Yeovil) and being the type of player that Davies is he runs a lot and at speed. Bound to be blowing a bit during the game. Feel for the bloke needs a goal to get his confidence the more he tries the harder it will be, just needs one of his shin or something.

"he runs a lot and at speed" - did neither of those yesterday. He looks slow and couldn't outpace that massive centre-back. Maybe it is a lack of match-fitness (wtf that is) but maybe not - he definitely looks likely to be 4th choice imho.

I thought exactly that. He hasn't done himself any favours by getting super fit that's for sure.

All you can say about him last night was that he had his chance and he didn't take it.

He is pretty fit. As far as I'm aware there is a contingent of Albion players who take their fitness pretty seriously- he is in that group with El-Abd, Crofts and Bennett.

Have you played the game? No amount of gym work can prepare you for, what was his first 90 minutes at this level for a while.

I still think it will come. I wish his superb goal at Wycombe had stood- it would have pushed his confidence right up. Unfortunately there are no excuses for him- he's got the build and ability, he just needs to score.

Davies is fast, aggressive, abrasive and generally a pain in the arse for defenders to deal with, if he could improve his finishing he will become the next STEVE BULL.

Davies was quite industrious but he is so low on confidence. He looked absolutely desperate to score which is good but he never got near.

The most striking point (no pun intended) was his reaction at the final whistle he looked disconsolate even though we'd won!

That's something that really concerns me about him. I've mentioned on here before about his response when we beat Colchester away last season. That was a crucial win for the TEAM and yet he didn't really join in the chest beating at the end of the game because he obviously felt he'd let himself down with his performance. That response really disappointed me.

I confess, I don't rate him at all, and I get fed up with this endless : "all he needs is a bit of confidence" :bla::bla::bla: No doubt confidence is playing it's part though, and perhaps trying too hard to impress instead of just relaxing and enjoying good TEAM performances goes hand in hand with the confidence thing.

I'd love to think Poyet and the new coaching set up has some sort of magic wand to turn Davies into a class act, but I'm not holding my breath. For what it's worth, and obviously I don't have a hot line to any managers thoughts, but I reckon Slade would have got rid if he could have. Will be interesting to see what Gus does with him.
