Craig Davies - Our missing target man?

Plays as one up top for an iffy team. If they score, he will get a bunch of them. Clearly didn't fit here but glad he's doing well. If took one target man back I'd take Iwelumo who always seems to link everything up well every time I see him, not CD who looks gash and then 1 in 8 has a cracking game by accounts. Why do we need anyone though? Our bench this season looks as strong if not better than our starting 11 last season (when we were fantastic)

Exactly this. Pleased for Craig though.

Exactly, think he had a bit of a torrid time here, im pretty sure he always tried his best, he looked awesome yesterday, good luck to him. I have his red and black striped shirt from an away game at Wycombe

The question for the Craig Davies acolytes is:-

Is he a Premier League front man?

To which the answer is no, so therefore he's not the player to sign to a 2 or 3 year deal.

We're now a very different team going in a different direction.

Ask a Barnsley fan and they'll tell you he looks handy one week and terrible the next. That's why he's not a top striker. If he was consistent, he'd be worth millions, but he's not. And we've only played 7 games, you don't size up a player's goalscoring record after 7 games.

I can't believe anybody's raving about him after one decent performance. Look how hopeless he was at the Amex.

I don't care what anyone says but after watching his performance tonight against Birmingham, I'm convinced we should have kept him. He looks a terrific striker - strong and skilful. If only he had stayed with us.

:(

I guess he had to score sometime and we had to get a thread saying we shoulda kept him.

He had a lucky day, just like Bryan Wade years ago. Never heard of him again afterwards. Good players score regularly not once in a blue moon.

Liken it to winning the lottery, you aint ever gonna do it twice.

Plus he's got "Davies" tattooed on his arm. What? In case he forgets his own name?

I did, and he didn't play well. I'm not disputing that. What I'm saying is that he seems a much better player now and you don't get to be the Championship's top scorer through luck alone.

i bet he isnt in the top 20 come the end of the season.

To be fair, when Barnsley visited the Amex, Davies scored a penalty in a side that was carrying 10+ first team injuries. He did not, therefore, perform badly that day. I agree that he is inconsistent but the same comment could be said, could it not, for many Championship strikers - not least CMS? I'm not saying that Davies will end up the Championship's top scorer but he looked much stronger and certainly more skilful yesterday than he ever looked for us and could potentially be a real handful in a better side that played to his strengths.

What odds do you want to give me?

If Davies features in the top 20 scorers in the Championship, you pay £50 to REMF. Otherwise, I'll pay up. Are we on?

It doesn't follow that someone's had a good game because they scored a penalty, and you can't even argue that Davies won the penalty. How did he play for the other 89 minutes and 30 seconds of the match where he wasn't taking a penalty?

Certainly no worse (and probably better) than most of the other Barnsley players.

The way my luck is he probably will be top! lol

I think top 20 was more tongue in cheek than realistic. Id be a fool to take an EV money bet.
