currently have cracked rib done last Sunday - 60mg of codeine and 1000mg of paracetomal both 4 times a day

But any cough and its still through the roof. On top of that i find a sleeping tablet works for getting through the night.

that is a strong paracetamol mate - over the counter jobbie?

Well you can buy 500mg Paracetamol over the counter so could just be 2 of them at a time?

Although with that level of codeine it might be Co Codamol or similar. Pop into your pharmacy and ask for a packet of Co Codamol and see if that helps. Cost about £1.50 for 32 if you buy a generic brand. Be warned though, they are big tablets and quite hard to swallow! They will also make you feel pretty spaced out at first!

Falmer, soon...
In terms of painkillers you have 3 options, Codeine, Apririn and Paracetemol.

Ibuprofen isn't a painkiller as such, it's an anti-inflamatory. If you have cracked ribs, chances are there will be some inflamation so it'll help to reduce the swelling.

If it were me, I'd go to the doctor and get some diclofenac -which can be a more effective anti-inflamatory and I'd take aspririn for the pain unless it's so severe that you need codeine or a codeine/paracetemol combo.

I'm pretty certain you're not meant to mix paracetamol and ibuprofen?!

If I were you, I'd get myself some co-codamol to get through the weekend, then Monday see Doc and get some Voltarol (Diclofenic) and maybe some Tramadol (mighty strong painkillers!)

I've used a Tens machine and they're ok, might work better for you than me, cos your pain is isolated to one area. all they actually do is vibrate though, thus 'distracting' the messages being sent to your brain telling it that you're in pain

At the risk of being ridiculed here, and awaiting all the lewd responses , before you go and spend upwards of £10 on a tens machine, if your gf has got a vibrator then try holding that over the painful area. I reckon it'll do the same job!

It's fine - ibuprofen is an anti-inflammatory, and paracetomol is an analgesic / antipyretic - they work in different ways.

Ok, perhaps it's the Voltarol you can't mix with Ibuprofen then? Maybe I'm confused? I take Voltarol and used to take Co Dydramol too, and docs always said I mustn't take Ibuprofen!
