Just wondered if anyone has had/know of any good remedies to help ease the pain of a cracked rib?

I got it 4 weeks ago playing footie against Scaynes Hill (rough game!! ;) ) .... now its really sore and we have a massive derby game this sat.

taken paracetamol and ibruprofen but is there any other cures/stretches/healing process that might help?

cheers :)

Can't really do anything for cracked ribs but ride it out unfortunately - they really hurt i know!!

It's 6 weeks healing time - best you can do is rest it.

Theres not alot you can do apart from continue as you are, i did mine last season and it took about 6weeks before it felt 100% better, the main difficulty i found was being able to take in a full breath rather than the actual pain!

Try a painkiller with codeine in it (co-codamol is one) dosing up on them or ibuprofen gets me through most games!

I'd be careful about using codeine when doing exercise, unless you know you're fine with it, it has some pretty nasty side effects.

cheers for the replies!! i will get some codeine i think just to get through the game saturday.

i think the deep breaths are gonna hurt the most, plus a few shoulder charges no doubt......annoying there is no "healing cream" though. :)

I can promise you (unless you suffer from side effects) Co-Comadol is the f***ing nuts. I had exactly the same problem in March, agony for weeks and was just getting worse.

I didn't go to hospital when it happened cos I knew there would be nothing they could do but in the end it got so bad that I ended up going down A&E about 3 weeks later! They prescribed Solpadol and within an hour the pain had gone. Took them for 2 weeks and had no problems with it or the ribs the whole time and when I stopped taking them ribs were fine.

Would be careful about taking them for too long though, they are STRONG so can feel quite good, suggest they may be a bit addictive!

I believe you can get both over the counter. As the poster above says...they are the nuts.Be warned though, avoid driving. They also make you feel a bit sick. You take that shit and you can kiss goodbye to bad tooth pains, throat and practicially any pains. If anyone who's had quincy know what pain is.

Know how you feel. It's just great when you laugh, sneeze or cough, isn't it?

In the end I gave up on the endless painkillers and resorted to large quantities of beer.... got used to the pain!

Stupidly, I played again - in goal - before the ribs were healed. Took three large brandies for medicinal purposes before the game and played a blinder in the first half - 0-0.
As for the second half....we lost 5-0....

Playing in goal a few years back I got smashed in the ribs after diving on the ball for a one on one, the single most painful experience of my life. Cracked ribs, out for 6 weeks. Paracetamol and those heat packs made the pain a little better. But probably best just to kill yourself.

Not much else I can suggest.
