Seriously? It's genuinely no wonder the rate is climbing daily with people like you out there. I really don't want to be rude but mate, are you seriously this daft?

A fantastic counter argument, what have I said that’s daft?

Closing a garden centre isn’t going to stop Deidre and Sheila from meeting up, if they were going to do it at a garden centre they will do it regardless. And my points about how viruses spread are facts, what do you think drives virus spread during winter?

People shouldn't be meeting, end of.

Even before Covid struck, loads of people were being killed by other viruses. We can't just let that continue like we used to. Once covid19 gets controlled better, I really do hope we stick with this new normal approach of everyone staying indoors at all time, so we never go back to the old ways when people were catching flues, colds and now Covid19 whilst everyone else just went about their business not giving a toss. It took for Covid for us to realise we can't ever live like that again. This new way is so much safer, it makes you realise how stupid we all were back in the old days. We socialise on forums/social media now so there's really no need to go out in the future for risk taking fun. I'm actually really enjoying watching football on the TV so I definitely won't ever be going back to the Amex again and I do hope most people on here feel the same now they know how dangerous those forms of entertainment were.

Really? Just everyone stay indoors all the time except for essential trips out? No thanks.

If you really think harden centres drive infection rates then I really don’t know what to say, if people are using garden centres as a place to meet, taking away the garden centre wouldn’t stop that, they’d just go to each other’s houses, indoor meetings for long periods drive infection rates, it’s the same reason why Flu spreads like wildfire in winter but not in summer, household settings and work places are the infection rate drivers.

Not people playing basketball or going to a garden centre.

They gather, masks on chins......stop, chat, amble around.

Look at stuff.....pick it up.....put it back down......pick it up again.......show it to their friend....put it in their trolley......rinse and repeat.....hand it to the cashier...fart around in their cavernous bags for their purse. Put bag on counter whilst doing so....start random chat with cashier about weather

‘We prefer contactless’

‘Ooooh luv, I don’t trust any of that new-fangled technology, here, I think I’ve got the right money......’

(Scrabbles around in purse....£5, £1 coin, £1 coin..........turns to friend, hands over a coin.....’is that of the old ones ?’ ‘No, it’s a new one I think’......hands it back......hands to cashier, along with a 50p and 2 x 20ps. Gets handed 4p change by cashier)

Nope, no chance of transmission there eh ?

And before you critique that, it’s EXACTLY what happens when I go with the Mrs under normal circumstances [emoji23][emoji23]

If being indoors spreads viruses, which it does, why is it better to then go out and spread it round? Jesus wept.

It certainly beats 60,000 people dying the next time another virus pops along.

They're not calling this the new normal for nothing. Time you get used to this because this is normal now and will be for as long as you live.

If 2 or 3 old biddies meet indoors then they’ll potentially infect each other....if they meet in the garden centre **** knows how many they’ll infect......touching stock, trollies, baskets, coughing over stuff, holding on to things while they take a breather etc etc

I think a happy medium could be found. I would rather be dead than live like this for the next 50 years. And I don't say that lightly.

Well quite, I don't think some people really understand infection control.

I really do not think that will be the case. History doesn't bear your theory out. Nobody would tolerate it and the globe would go bankrupt. Sorry, I think you are wrong here.

Deliveroo has tonnes of drivers which are growing in numbers since the lockdown. There's no way you'll be waiting more than an hour.
That's cool. I'm out and about occasionally as a key worker anyway, so happy to go to supermarket.

Oh come on. This new way of living isn't that bad. We can all still get to watch football on the TV, play computer games online and flick on Netflix. It's not like we're being starved from life. More importantly, we will forever be much better prepared for the next killer virus to come along. Surely making society safer is enough reason for this to be the new normal and for everyone to live by these new rules in the future even after the vaccines? What would be the point of all this if we just go back to the old ways where we know a new killer virus could deplete our nation once again?

Despite my post count, I'd rather risk it than stay indoors, alone, watching Netflix. That is no life. My life is about socialising and enjoying the outdoors, theatre, pubs, gigs, galleries, getting up on the Downs, cycling, seeing friends, etc etc. I'd rather be dead than give all that up. I don't think you're right here, it's not how humans operate. What's the point in saving lives for them to be spent in isolation? It defeats the purpose in the first place.

Quite....had this discussion at work with someone who said ‘now I know what wartime was like’........FFS, yeah course you do, go talk to my grandmother [emoji849][emoji849]

-your husband/kids haven’t been sent to Europe to be shot
-you have instant contact with anyone
-food is plentiful
-you’re not going to bed at night waiting for an air raid siren or your house to be blown up
-you’ve got instant access to more film and Tv you can ever watch
-it won’t last 5 years

Maybe for most of 2021 and some cautionary measures for a couple of years after but forever? Nah, never going to happen. Things will be back to normal very quickly.

Things are already normal. We just call it the new normal. Get used to it mate. This is just the beginning.

I disagree. No point saving lives for them to be spent indoors in isolation.

I disagree. I think the current approach is working good enough and quite rightly should be regarded as the new normal. We could have lost a predicted 500,000 lives if it wasn't for this new way of living we've taken on. Let's embrace it rather than dreaming of old ways which lead us here.
