Had my jab today (yay) and parked in Churchill Square. Being a bit early I decided to walk through the centre and it was chaos - busier than I've ever seen it except around Christmas, no social distancing anywhere, almost everyone ignoring the "walk on the left" instructions, more non-mask wearers than I've seen for probably a year and security dealing with drunk people (who weren't wearing masks). Grim.

If there is a rule mandating facemasks at games, it must be enforced or nobody will follow it. Tests far from perfect and plenty of countries thought they were on top of it and then turned out not to be.

Plenty of room for optimism in this country. And I hope it will stay at least as good as it is now.
Like others, I am not really worried by a couple of football fans (who have been tested) not wearing masks while outside. Although I'd also say at ths stage, if rules say wear them, then wear them. Why not? Not least to set an example.
But to just say 'it's over' is stupid. And dangerous.
Ask anyone in India if 'it's over'. Or Chile. Or Germany. Too many countries have been caught out by being complacent.
It's over when the experts (the real ones, not the anti-lockdown attention seekers) say it's over. And at the moment, while there are inevitably differences in the detailed modelling, and assessement, the consensis is that it's looking good, but we need to remain cautious and move step by step. One reason I am optimistic is that the government seems to have finally learnt the lesson of listening to the experts, not getting ahead of the science and data and moving too fast,

in less than 2 months we will have all restrictions lifted.

I am very positive about where we are. But we got here through a number of measures, based on a careful, well planned process. And we need to get out through a careful and well planned process. Not by declaring it 'over' and rushing out to mingle as we please. If you think this can't still go pear shaped from here, given the situation elsewhere in the world, then you haven't been paying attention. And to cock it up from here, through an inability to act like grown ups, would be an insult to all those that have worked so hard to get us to this point.
We can certainly have a 'near-normal' summer, but it's not over anywhere until it is over everywhere.
This in a nutshell.
It won't be until next year when everyone, or the vast majority are vaccinated that we see how effective it is, AND if people need top ups . . .
My moneys on the idiotic majority getting over excited about pubs/clubs opening and a mini 3rd wave at least.
