I believe Lulu also did cover it. I wouldn't agree that Nirvana's version was any improvement though, Cobain 'sang' it without any particular direction or passion, or notable addition to the original.

I preferred Bowie's original 'Prettiest Star' to the Aladin Sane version, but the 'Ziggy Stardust' version of 'Moonage Daydream' and 'Hang Onto Yourself' beat the originals (first issued under his 'Arnold Corns' pseudonym).

'PinUps' I found to be fairly dull, yet he did a wonderful 'Let's Spend The Night Together' (Rolling Stones) on Aladin Sane.

Personally I think he makes himself look an idiot with his rabid hatred of anything "commercial" - commercial being music that more than 7 people like. He epitomises the sad kid at school who wants every small-time band to be their own little secret. In the unlikely event that said band makes it big, they invariably tell everyone how much better they were in 1999 when they played to 4 people in the toilets of the Pav Tav and charged you £5 for a couple of home recordings on cassette.

But maybe that's just me.
