Just far enough away from LDC
synergy of departments for a start, why do they duplicate roles in Hove as well as in brighton ?
why do we still maintain hove town hall AND Brighton town hall ?
Why do we pay for transport between the 2 ? (C Lucas used to take taxis between BTH and HTH and not the bus)
freeze on pay rises like the rest of us
reverse brain dead ideas - for example Waterhall GC used to be a net conribuitor to the council coffers (rates, taxes etc) - but "re-wilding" the area has turned into an actual COST to the council ( ask how much they pay to transport sheep in to keep the grass down & the ranger that permently lives in the old club house) - let alone the additional car jounneys that local glofers now make when they cannot player there - how much carbon has the 3 foot tall grass actually "locked-in" ?
CW
What does C lucas have to do with council tax?

Adult social care should be a national issue not a council one.

Too much of council money goes to it.

Our towns and cities need so much investment that the councils can't afford, and the main reason for this, and the reasons our bills go up so much every year, is social care.
Very difficult to get change in this area as there will be a shedload of individual stories that say why every penny spent is vital.

The government most likely to make a change is the Labour Party, as they are about to with benefits. If they were in opposition they'd play politics with it; in government they can see that reductions need to be made. At some point that opinion will also arrive for the special education budget and things like taxi travel (which must be a very good earner for some).

Council Tax here is only going up by 4.1 % , on the downside you'll have to live in Grimsby. :)

Think yourself lucky, ours is rising 9.9% in Bradford district, and still they continue to shut refuse tips and reduce services considerably. Seems the Government has just had to bail them out a bit too. There needs to be serious look at wasteful spending though, the Bradford Live music venue and the laughable 'City of Culture 2025'.

The upside is you have the best fish and chips on the planet and you can buy a nice house for a quarter of the price.

Yeah, 5% seems like nothing compared to the 43% increase in my water bill next month. I'll be paying more for water for a household of two adults than I pay for Gas and Electric...
But think of the dividends.
Privatization liberated dinosaur companies so they could modernize and make money.
Are we not all richer for it? ???

Surely you aren't gong to tell me you're not a shareholder? ???

Would highly recommend getting a water meter installed if you haven't already done so
Here in Lent....
After I got a mater (I was given no choice), my bills went up.
I am charged twice for everything that comes out of my taps.
Once for the water, and once for its efficient removal at almost the same rate as I'm charged for the water itself.
Whether I use any of it or not.

All I can say is my water bill shrank massively after the meter got fitted. I just sort of assumed it would be the same for most people with normal water usage

If you live on your own and are judicious, I expect your bills would fall.
There are three of us and the washing machine is used every day (teenager with ADHD, nightwear and a change of clothes after school).
(I suppose we do send most of the water we use down the drain, but even so....
I have no evidence the water company has spent a penny on its disposal, ever).

Have you tried giving it up for the duration?

The US crew rescued from the burning wreck of the Stena Immaculate and its cargo of 220,000 barrels of jet fuel, having been brought ashore in Grimsby, have had a look around and asked the RNLI if there's any chance of being taken back to the ship.
