I'm not saying we played well or deserved to win the game but the shocking decision by ref and lino (bottle jobs) was a turning point of this match. Had we gone in at 2-2 we would have played the 2nd half differently and it may have been a different story. As it happens, Germany caught us on the counter attack in the second half twice - we wouldn't have pushed so many up at 2-2 and it could've been different.

I'm not defending the performance as England were poor.

I refuse to ever get into this 'England are shit' business though. England aren't shit as you'd know if you watched them over Fabio's reign. They were pretty shit yesterday though. It was just one of those things - defensively we were awful.

True, they looked pretty good in the qualies, but the opposition, Croatia apart, was not up to much, and half of those were at home. We were truely aweful for the last 6 games - including the Mexico and Japan friendlies. It wasn't just an off-day.

Whilst I wouldn't want to throw the baby out with thw bathwater, there needs to be a rethink.

Not true... the score was 2-1 at the time so it did prove decisive.... if England had later equalised then it would not have been decisive as the balance would have been tipped anyway.... England were forced to change tactics in the second half to continue chasing the game and therefore left themselves open at the back.

As to a reply ...no... it just isn't practical.... for this game we just have to move on but it's now time for players ,managers and referees alike to start turning on FİFA to change the rules. How can you have fairplay when the game isn't fair?

spot on.

If Fabio and our gutless FA had anything about them they would have walked off and refused to play until they done something about what was so far the worst decision of this world cup and even now I would back a withdrawl of England from any more Internationals.

yes we played shit but that decision altered the game and who knows we might have gone on to lose 2-6 .but that Ref made sure we would never know and he does have previous ..........there are better Sunday league Refs .................................and maybe players.
it was unfair and thats it.

Sorry, that's rubbish - they would have looked like 12 year old schoolboys .... "I'm going home NOW and talking my ball with me". It is professional to obey the refs decision, however bad.

Glad you cleared that up.

Oh dear - you wasted 5 mins of your life getting all those quotes?

Not once have I contradicted myself if you read the full paragraph. You don't judge a team on one match. Yesterday we were shit but overall we're not shit is not a contradiction. Mug.

They better not do. We won't be so lucky that we keep them down to 4 again.

just wondering if anything in the rulebook, about overturning crap referees..?

they do go on about fair play etc..?

They won't order a replay even though the decision had a massive impact on the game at the time and most likely played a massive part in the final result, as it caused a momentum swing and affected the players who were on the end of the wrong decision. The fact that everyone in the ground knew a terrible mistake had been made, and therefore the scoreline was wrong and unjust made matters worse but the officials didn't see it at the time and the original decision had to stand. You have to feel sorry for the Mexicans and they deserved better or were you referring to someone else?

"Fair play" also includes being a good loser (and let's face it, losing is one thing we certainly are good at) and accepting when you've been soundly beaten by a vastly superior side.

There is rather a pattern to England's major finals defeats. Lose to Portugal: demonise the referee who sent off Rooney. Lose to Argentina: our media publish the home number of the referee who sent off Beckham. Lose to Argentina (again): spend the next twenty four years complaining about Maradona's goal. Lose to West Germany and all we can talk about is Gazza's booking and its impact on morale.

The sooner we start realising that, whatever the officiating errors (and not ONE of those officials made more mistakes than every single England player did in every single match in the 2010 competition) the team still have another 89 minutes to do something about it and score a bloody goal, the better.

Its quite likely Sepp Blatter would be assasinated if he allowed an England reply after not allowing an Ireland one

So, in that case, please go and get one. Please. :D
