The dull part of the south coast
My grandson was made captain’s mascot as a birthday present in our promotion season. In fact it was for our first game against Nottingham Forest, and he was proud as punch walking out on the pitch with Bruno.

With regard to other comments/posts about the value and content of the mascot package here are a few points :

Although not cheap (less than it is now) it was definitely value for money.

Free kit for my grandson

Two free adult tickets and one for him in WSL behind the dugouts

Free food vouchers

Taken behind the scenes and into the media room to ask “questions”!

Warm up pitchside with the players

Escorting captain (Bruno) onto the pitch prior to kick off, doing the Hallelujah Handshake with the opposition.

Centre circle photos with match officials and team captains

Loads of other goodies as well

Free parking in Bridge car park

Transfer of my season tickets in the West Upper to the West Lower for the other grandparents - no charge!

Memories of the day - absolutely priceless.

Agree with the OP here. Low income families are disadvantaged and the whole thing leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Premier League clubs have no reason to charge for this, bearing in mind the amount of money floating around.

Should a father on £20k per annum in Brighton have to pay hundreds to let his son or daughter be paraded round with a player who earns his annual salary in 2 days!

Totally with you on this one.

All well and good for the more affluent to be able to afford for their kids to be mascots. "I'm alright jack"!! And no thought or consideration to traditional long-time supporters of the club who aren't loaded and are maybe struggling to get their ST money together for them and their kids.

Football is no longer a cheap event; the money men running the clubs and indeed the game, will squeeze the less affluent out of attending games. Barber doesn't want me; I don't have the disposable income to fritter away on nik-naks and extras. I consider myself fortunate that I can still just about afford my ST. But for how much longer remains to be seen.

.

So it is time for free tickets for the poor as well then.

Football has ALWAYS been about money, I had to give up my ST at the Goldstone when my daughter was born because I could no long justify the expense, its call life you have to make choices and get on with it. I made that choice and put the radio on every Saturday afternoon.

But you only have a choice if you can afford to pay for the option in the first place!

I would love a huge yacht but....................

I never got to be a mascot when I was a kid. It would've been a nice memory, but it hasn't affected me or limited my chances in life too badly. It's not like denying food, shelter, education or medical care to the kids from less well off families, is it?

Anyway, the club seem to be very generous to the young seagulls: Totally free membership, a load of free goodies every year (apparently) and a free shirt on their 7th birthday. And that's on top of all the community and schools stuff they do. Barber out.
