I don't think this country is shit at all. I've never felt like I've ever wanted to leave. Every society has its problems. I think we are quite fortunate really.

One of my minor irritations is when folk try to turn threads of concern about the welfare of a mother and children into a debate on other subjects- and I think most of us are well aware as to why it is....
Racism.

I thought @Zebedee was better than that. Apparently not.

That's why the OP started the thread
Backfired somewhat
I think you're mistaken.

And what a weird comment to make.

@The Clamp, did you start the thread because you mistakenly assumed the perpetrator is while and wanted to make a point that has backfired? ???

The Metropolitan police have released a new image of Abdul Ezedi, the suspect in the Clapham alkaline substance attack.

Supt Gabriel Cameron said: “We are now releasing an image of the last known sighting of Abdul Shokoor Ezedi, which was on Caledonian Road, N1 at 8.48pm on Wednesday 31 January.

“The image is taken from the Tesco store, where Ezedi is believed to have purchased a bottle of water. He left the shop and turned right.

“The image shows Ezedi with what appears to be significant injuries to the right side of his face. This makes him distinctive.

“If you see Ezedi, call 999 immediately. He should not be approached.”

Of course. A cushy whole life term would be so much better. How much does that cost the taxpayer?
Would you be prepared to pull the lever, flick the switch, pull the trigger, administer the injection or do whatever is needed to kill someone?
I wouldn’t.

When eventually captured, wait for the mental health card to be played.
On what basis do you suggest that?
it seems to be a targeted attack, not random assaults on unknown to the attacker people, as was the case with that bloke in Nottingham.

And as it has been pointed out repeatedly, it is more expensive to pursue an execution (in the US) than pursue life in prison. Nobody hell bent on an agenda has any interest in facts, though. Sadly (for the rest of us).

It might be nice for a moderator to get @Zebedee off this thread for promoting lies and bollocks and racism. But if the armchair executioner wants to carry on, I'm happy to dig him out (till I nip off to watch some telly football, anyway).

Genuine question, because I’m obviously on your side!!!!! But what evidence is there for the life in prison cheaper than the death sentence?
or is that because the Americans seem to keep someone on death row for a lifetime?

Precisely. Mad knifeman goes mad on strangers after a lifetime of hearing voices is a far cry from estranged husband or stalker attacks people he knows after being (presumably) jilted.

There again if the bloke has a history of paranoid schizophrenia, that's what he has.

@Leekbrookgull you should be ashamed of yourself, waving the imaginary mental health 'card' without the remotest justification, other than to insinuate there is no such thing as mental illness (a common prejudice). It was a pathetic comment.

Someone posted the data on another thread. Could have been @Zeberdi (who is not the same poster as the one being a tit on this thread). It surprised me, I'll admit. But the data are there. It may be because the appeals and legals go on for ages. But it may also be related to the fact that the rigmarole of arranging the execution itself is onerous - medical people are bound by the hypocratic oath to not kill, so arranging a killing that fits the local laws, and is done by someone 'qualified' can be a big deal.

Of course, if anyone convicted of a crime of any seriousness were simply thrown into the nearest woodchipper, no appeals, no need for 'humane' process, no anaesthetic, or luxury final meal, it would be much cheaper. It seems that some people would be happy for this to be the rubric. However it isn't, so the 'money' argument is what it is (not a reason to opt for execution as a solution to prisoner costs).

And.....exhale.

And all the best

Across England and Wales, 82% of people identified with a White ethnic group, 9% with an Asian ethnic group, 4% with a Black ethnic group, 3% with Mixed or Multiple ethnic groups, and 2% with other ethnic groups

Yes. As the data posted on this thread shows, it is white.

@Zebedee worded that wrong I think. The point he’s making seems to be on % level rather than total numbers - and the facts prove that correct.

Never really thought to delve into acid attacks though - it’s not one I’d associated with a religion or ethnicity and there’s so many variables to this and the data so it’s risky to suggest it’s some particular groups in my opinion - eg religion.

I think it stems from terrorism and innocent people being killed and injured by these attacks - which is clearly the vast majority committed by Muslims. It’s a different thing and not sure if this was a terrorist attack or not so will reserve judgement.

As with anything like this you cannot tar everyone with the same brush, but you also have to accept facts. Everyone is human but there are also trends that don’t do certain groups favours with prejudices and generalisations…

It’s interesting with this one. It’s more black people that commit way more crimes in terms of % of crimes than their population. That is a fact unfortunately. Although they are searched kore - probably as a result of this sort of data. People shouldn’t be scared to highlight this for fear of being called racist though. In terms of the graph from
2020 on the gov uk site below: Asian is about the same - as is Chinese etc - white is lower. The black stat will only increase prejudice and racism unfortunately:

Fwiw in this case I think the twat is of Asian ethnicity.
