13m voting for a socialist manifesto in my lifetime is incredible really. It was an amazing result given it was called to increase a commons majority that only strengthened the opposition.

They made a HUGE mistake of forming a coalition and will NEVER be forgiven (even though what has happened with the other two parties has been far worse)

I don't think it reflects well on the British electorate that it is recognised by so few what a great job they did In moderating Tory excesses and, until the election trail was hit again, enabling a strong and stable government to persist.

As the coalition was formed, many of those on here who lean left of centre were stating that it would all come crumbling apart within a matter of months and, much like their other political predictions, they were proved to be hopelessly inaccurate.

In our ridiculously polarised politics, with the Lib Dems repeatedly polling so badly, I also think there is generally a perception that a vote for them is wasted. If people believed they could do better, they'd receive more votes. They're in a bit of a catch-22 position.

THEY formed a coalition?? It was the Tories that invited the Lib Dems to join them in a coalition government because no party had an overall majority. Clegg quite rightly acted in the national interest to form that government, a government consisting of 2 parties that had received 59% of the vote between them.

We're seeing now with the DUP that it is impossible to do business with the Tories, and Theresa's May abject failure to even try to reach any cross-party consensus in Parliament and her complete contempt for Corbyn and Labour shows that maybe the electorate's decision to punish to Lib Dems so severely was misguided at best. It is no coincidence that since the demise of the Lib Dems British politics has become polarised, divisive and - quite simply - paralysed.

The 2010/15 Coalition worked well IMO. Parties and individuals conceding points, compromising. They also worked with expert Labour MP’s on certain issues, such as Frank Field. Cameron, Osborne, Clegg and Cable were a quietly formidable team. The socialists and writers predicting its early collapse, got it all so wrong.

Obviously Labour supporters will always hate them, plus those against student loans (which Blair initiated) and those affected by the post-2008 crash austerity.
