Most of their fans are right, we do have the potential in terms of catchment area, but the reality is that Reading are bigger than us in terms of turnover, attendance and place in the league.

They are in the Prem on merit, and hats off to them for what they have achieved under Sir Steve.

Fair play to Coppell for having the balls to speak his mind knowing it would antagonise some Reading fans but its news to me that Brighton is a dump. Never fails to amaze me that some people are happy to make such stupid throw away comments.

When you compare like for like, Albion always had bigger crowds than Reading in the old div 3 days where both clubs spent most their years.

Indeed, they only started pulling in the crowds once they had the ground to do so, and fair play to them for getting up there with the big boys.

I don't think Coppell was having a dig at Reading fans. he seems a pretty unique guy (in football terms) in that he does actually seem to care. That's even more remarkable in someone who has taken so much abuse from us for his Palace days.

I think it's just his appreciation of the difficulties down here and how everyone tries to pull together despite it all, that won him over.

YES.
Dirty filthy rat faced scummer

...who seems to like Brighton, thereby winding up the Reading fans and, presumably, the Pa*ace fans.

Proves nothing of course, but I noticed there are 122 people on NSC and only 5 members on Hob nob at the moment.
It has always been their main board, even before they were a big club!

No, 66 on Hob Knob. Including a few of us.

He's right about the history though. Brighton would have their fanbase increase much quicker than ours did and those fans would be more likely to stay if they had a bad year or two.

A little dissapointed with some of Coppell's comments, but then he obviously feels very strongly about Brighton so fair enough. It's not like he's a fan of Reading, he's just the manager. An extremely good manager, who is loyal and presumably enjoying his job, but still only a manager. One day, when he leaves us, I hope he speaks as highly about our club.

all good common sence response

Seems most of the Reading fans are fairly sensible about it.
Historically we were bigger, now obviously they are. We have the potential to be again, but we would need to build Falmer and expand it to even be on a par ground wise. And they could be expanding again in the near future.

Unfortunately ground or no ground it will be a while before we can claim to be bigger than Reading again. :(

Both teams spent many years in Div3 South. We had a good spell in the late 70's-early 80's but let it slip.At that time Reading were so far below us we sort of forgot them. Now it is their turn.Very nice stadium, decent team, excellent manager, and good luck to them.

But we will get our new stadium, and currently one good season for us,and a bad one for them, sees us both together in the Championship.

'Tis the beauty of football.

And well said Mr Coppell.

The thing is,i know so many people who support the Albion including family members who have only set foot in withdean a handful of times between them. All of these will return when we get Falmer.Call them what you like but there are thousands like them out there.I have no doubt at all we will fill the stadium.

I reckon that for many years Reading were at least one division below us and yet they're doing well now. Potentially we could be 'bigger' but who cares ? Why don't we wait and see what happens ? Coppell isn't a legend here but he has been a good friend to this club since he left.

It almost sounds like Coppell wants to take charge of the albion again once Falmer is built
