Tried gas-perms in my early 20s and was nearly put off for life. Constant discomfort, forever getting stuff behind them etc. Got a bit of grit behind one of them once while turning right on my bike at the top of Tottenham Court Road, and both eyes snapped shut and refused to open. Had to stop in the middle of the junction with Oxford Street, and it was nearly the end of me.
Took nearly 20 years before I could face trying again. Went for daily disposables and have never looked back. Forgot they were there about five seconds after putting them in.
Would not recommend keeping them in any longer than they are designed for, though. Over the years, this is likely to deprive the cells of oxygen. For the same reason, it's best not to use dailies every day, particuarly if you put them in in the morning and only take them out last thing at night.
