I got 18 Thumbs Up for my call for Herr Tubthumper to be banned short term for his disgustingly inappropriate contribution earlier today.

Perhaps we can leave it with the mods to see if any of them are brave enough to administer the appropriate sanction, because on this occasion it is fully warranted, and it seriously needs to happen. It is not right for the so-called big-wigs of this board to think they are waterproof.

Cancel culture gone mad

Can it be locked? Surely all it is now doing is releasing bile from both sides?

Why should an important discussion about the news story dominating the headlines be locked, effectively silencing any discussion and debate about it on here?

It lets those who lack the decency to engage at an appropriate level win, at the expense of the decent folk who have interesting things to say, and that's never right.

I've banned two further people from this thread now.

Thank you Bozza.

You catch me in a week when I have been very unwell, with two trips to A&E for abdominal pain. I won’t make the Norwich game, sadly.

I hope we can all learn to show understanding, balance, humility and respect, as a learning point from today’s tragic events.

OK It's your game, your ball, I have said all I want to say and I won't comment any further.

A brilliant constituent MP like many we have in and around Brighton. Very disturbing parallels with Jo Cox, why has it happened again?

A loss to the Country and his constituency.

RIP

Sir David wasn’t even on my radar but judging by the outpouring of grief and support for the guy from his local constituency, people of all races colours and religious beliefs etc, he was obviously a very well thought and respected MP.

Ahem, before you go off on a racist rant about migrants, Jo Cox was murdered by a white English Brexiteer. Both tragedies are equally awful, and neither proves anything about causality, or justifies a general argument based on the origins or background of the perpetrator - the only message is that in both cases, devoted public servants have been killed at work, and while mourning them, we all need to think about how to prevent further atrocities of this kind.

I've been away from the news for much of today as i have had to travel to deepest Kent for a funeral. I heard on the car radio at one point that there had been a stabbing of an MP but only that he had been taken to hospital, I'm shocked to see the poor man has died. This is a terrible day in British politics, RIP Sir David.

Famously hoaxed by Brass Eye into asking a Commons Question about the made up drug CAKE, that said events like this have no place in a civilised society, a devastating day for this country and specifically the Amess family and more fuel to the campaign for the return of capital punishment.

RIP

I would be a political opponent of his, but he was a decent, kind and principled man. Awful that this happens when going about normal constituency business.

And I don’t think capital punishment would make any difference whatsoever.

So much anger and hate in the world today. This atrocity today and another 5 innocent people killed recently in Norway.

Sadly I have got used to seeing extreme violence used in the USA by people against others whose views and opinions they disagree with. I am sure most people had hoped that kind of behaviour would never be seen in countries that had always been considered to be, by and large, peaceful. It would now seem that with these shocking recent events and others not that long ago nowhere is safe from such extremism. I am sure part of the aftermath of todays events will be more armed police and security for people in the public eye. The world seems to have gone crazy

As Ian Hislop said to Priti Patel on Question Time " Hanging is not much use as a deterrent if you keep hanging the wrong people "

Did he provide a list of examples?

To use the word 'keep" might imply many such cases.

Unless it's just "right on" satire.

It's nothing new though? Regular IRA bombings in the 80's and has always been lots of violence, rape, drugs etc. (Just look at football in the 70's/80's) Society certainly feels much safer these days. Calls for American style armed police on the streets seem a little extreme over an obviously tragic isolated incident. Personally I don't want to live in a Police state or copy the generally failed American model.

Ahem, before ypu gp on about racist rants, that post merely states that the alleged killer is a 25 year old Somali; I understand that to have been reported, no? It is about as relevant - or irrelevant - as your statement about Jo Cox's killer being white, English, and a Brexiteer. In fact he was just a nazi, but that's not as nuanced as linking his race, his Englishness and Brexit views together, is it.
And by the way, he was Scottish.

“likely”

You’re completely guessing.

It wasn’t part of an intelligent discussion, it was a couple of left wing posters who couldn’t wait to put the boot into someone they had a very limited/blinkered view on. With a couple of like minded people, no surprise whatsoever, defending their political chums.

Be honest, you know that’s how it works on social media including nsc, a load of people live, eat and drink a class war in their minds.

I don’t think anything that was said or written could in any way be construed as “class war” - in fact far from it.
