Very hard on him but I cannot see that happening although balls in the air, Duffy strength, are not one of Chelsea strengths. We will have to try to nullify Hazard, Morata and Willan on the ground. I think it will depend on how we can contain Fabregas and Konte in midfield and stop them getting balls through to the front men. A difficult job, but it is possible.

Why can't you see that happening..especially as you have pointed out Duffys strength in the air is not one of Chelseas?

Reminds me of that curb crawling former Luton manager who can't pronounce anyone's name, and yet has been thieving a living as a pundit for 20 years plus. Who TF is 'Shimbombo' for example?

Back to Goldstone, I was at the game and didn't realise what amazing passes he'd done till I saw MOTD (I had assumed at the time it was all Dunk - my eysight ain't all that). Yes, Conroy should keep the shirt for sure

Should we call him Conroy Goldstone?

Really like Goldson.

But, massive credit to the crowd yesterday for the ovation and song, although arguably expected, thought the volume was very impressive

I think despite what I have said about Chelsea CH will revert to his tried and tested formation. I do wonder if he may drop one of the wide men and bring Kayal into centre midfield to try to combat Chelsea strength on the ground.

Three in the middle maybe....but if u drop one of those wide we will be a touch unbalanced don't you think?

My guess is that Duffy will get back in. Remember, 18 months ago many of us were of the opinion that all we needed was a reliable 4th. choice CB to replace Greer, and were quite amazed (and indeed rather critical) of the club breaking its transfer record to get in a player to replace Goldson as first choice alongside Dunk. The management team thought different - and, to be fair, we haven't had much cause for complaint about that decision, have we?

I suspect he will too, but I still think it sends out a poor message to Goldson if he does get dropped. Also, the Championship is a different league to the Premier League. Quicker players, more skilful players, players that require defenders to be quicker and read the game better. To me, Goldson has those qualities more than Duffy. I think teams are working out that if they keep the ball on the floor, Duffy will struggle.

Not after the header he missed in the second half !

I was astonished to find that Dunk has had the same number of chances as Gross (15) - 5th highest in the team. So - maybe you're right. I'm still remembering him being our top scorer a few years back.

I think that after 9 months out, 2 games 3 days apart will be too much. Excellent as his performance was, I think Conroy Goldstone will be back on the bench :(

March is playing far too well to be dropped

Eh ?

Did you see him yesterday ? I like Solly, I hope he can play his way back into form, and you can never criticise his workrate. But by christ, he stunk the place out yesterday and has been a bit off colour for a few weeks now.

Duffy & Goldson for me would be first choice now, Dunk is still getting caught out (Richarlison header yesterday, when Dunk missed the ball), deflecting shots in by lunging frantically and missing them at the other end.

I always think Duffy may score for us, Dunk not so?

When Richarlison fouled Dunk by pushing him in the back, not much any defender could do about that. Duffy and Goldson have many attributes but neither are on a par with Dunk. As good as Duffy is, it's Goldson that I feel could really push on and improve a lot more yet.

Wasn't really nonsense at all, to be fair. Most were unsure about how he would be after his heart complications and knew that Duffy and Dunk would start most of our games so thought it would be best if he got loaned out so he could get some more regular gametime.

“Most” or a few? Anyway, the club knew far more than those punters and kept brilliant Goldson in the PL squad.

Everything you wrote is spot on.

There’s a bias towards SM as he’s home grown.

But time is on his side. Plus when we acquire better strikers with pace, opposing defenders will have far more to do than simply doubling/tripling up on SM and AK to mark them out of games.

Agreed. So many poor decisions yesterday, final ball was dreadful and he seems to have largely stopped trying to go past anyone - shame because he’s brilliant when he’s on his game. Suttner played several balls into really good positions for him from which he could’ve done a lot better. Would like to see Jose get more of a chance.

Chelsea are a different kettle of fish so we need fresh Duffy out there. There is still the FA Cup for Connor and Hunemier to look forward to and cover for injuries and suspensions later in the season so they will get their chances. Great to have 4 good CB's to chose from and playing 3 at the back is always an option even if later in a game. Spoilt for choice in that department.

I'd go with 'most' by a comfortable majority; the idea was mooted on NSC, and there were few, if any, voices raised against it.. And maybe the club didn't loan him out for the same reasons as we didn't get a striker in August - the necessary deals to make it happen didn't go through.
